I realized after the fact I forgot to get a sword from the cupboard in Redcliffe, can I return and still find that item? Or did I have to get it when I completed the quest there?
As well many chests I am unable to open/pick the lock on, but can I return and open them later?

Yes, you can come back later and open them chests, when you've got your lockpicking beefed up.

It sounds like you're talking about The Green Blade in Redcliffe, though. That's part of a little quest, and not a standard item-in-a-box. If you've already fought the zombies there, you won't be able to complete that quest and get the blade.
On the bright side, it's not a particularly good sword - both of its mods are mostly useless. Oathkeeper is at least as good, and certainly better if you use the Healing Effects fix.

Ah yeah discovered that too late. Thanks for the tip. I seem to continually miss something in a quest.
Oh well, loving this game.....which I found for a great deal after my diablo 3 dissappointment.

One more question... Would the same be true for the gauntlets on uldred? I assume I can't return for them?
