Hello all!

Just a quick intro. This is a problem that I have gotten more and more lately, and it's very random. I had a feeling that this happens when there is a live update on the server, like when there is an operation inc or when there is a patch, but I never got to confirm this 100%.

Just to confirm first, I have a very stable internet connection (50/50 mbit), a monster pc and no security software blocking anything.

Two days ago it got so bad that I disconnected several times during ONE plat match, and it's not fun to disconnect when you are the only one alive on wave 10. I'll tell you that. Anyway, I started looking for EVERY solution out there. No matter how stupid it looked, I tried it because I was desperate. You know.. router settings, firewall settings, reinstalling origin and me, turned off IPv6, disabled NCSI, registry changes.. EVERYTHING!

Nothing of this worked. I kept thinking about it... what is so different about me ? The other 3 in my squad didn't have any problems, and one of them was from the same country as me. Then it suddenly came to me... the ISP. We probably don't have the same ISP and there might also be some local differences even if you have the same ISP. My ISP is good and stable, but there is one difference the ISPs have between each other. Something called DNS, name servers. What if the communication problem is there... hell, it's worth a try. So when I came back from work yesterday I changed DNS servers on my PC manually (will tell you soon which one I used), and played several ME3 MP matches on all difficulties. I used the STORE a lot buying packs, and then back to a new match. You know what, no disconnects at all! Not even a single one, 100% stable. Oh, there was one disconnect but that was for the whole community last night when the servers actually went down. But no random disconnects from my side at all, it felt very good. Finally I could play platinum matches and not be afraid of getting disconnected and ruining it for my team.

Now, before I (and we) start celebrating too much, this needs more testing than one evening. It has been way too random to say it's SOLVED already, and as I said before, I earlier suspected that it had something to do when they did liveupdate on the servers. Because that's when I had the most problems. So I would like you guys with this problem to test it with me if you don't mind.

There are several open dns servers you can use (beside your ISP) in your country, but I chosed to use Google DNS servers. There are also another nice public service called OpenDNS, and you should chose which one to use depending on where you're from. You might notice your connection gets a bit slower, but I did a speedtest after I changed to Google DNS servers and it was pretty much the same as using my ISP DNS servers.Check this link for Google DNS servers -
https://developers.g...eed/public-dns/. If you want to try OpenDNS, just google it.

I will continue testing this for a week now, and will reply to this thread. But it would be nice if you also could help me with this, if you have the same problem as me.

Day 2
Still working like a charm. Been logged in several hours in the multiplayer part of ME3, did several matches and went to the store/shop in between. Not a single disconnect today. Will continue to post here the next days.

I will attempt to tackle this one to help you understand what a DNS server is.
Think of it as a phone book, your ISP has one his ISP has one, and their ISP has one etc..
Its basically the backbone of how the internet works and how when you type in www.whatever.org it takes you to that website.
Long ago people realized it was harder to remember numbers than to remember names, thus they basically built the Domain Name Service which correlated a name to a number www.whatever.org = 255.255.255.255
When resolving an address it works up the chain of ISPs until a answer is found for a query then caches it locally to be reused until its time to live expires.
For this game and for most games a set Static IP (255.255.255.255) is used no renaming is involved thus DNS plays little part in its connectivity but host files do. But for connecting to a website... yes it is used.
Its hard to boil down but im not sure your fix solves the issue. Its like your basically not using AT&T's phone book your just now using Yellow Pages.

Thanks for your post Onishiro. I must admit that I don't fully understand all the technical stuff behind DNS servers, but seeing it as a sort of phonebook sounds reasonable. If you remove DNS servers from your internet connection (router or pc), you can't get anywhere. Just sitting there in a LAN ^^

However, what still makes me belive this works for me (until proven otherwise) is that I don't know anything about how origin and me/ea servers communicate with me. With other online games I don't have a problem, but before I changed DNS servers I even got disconnected from Origin.

If the game is looking up ME/EA servers by name and those servers have different IPs based on region, ISP, or location, then yes I belive changing DNS can affect how they respond. Or maybe my ISP have badly configured dns servers which affect the communication with ME servers. That's the little hope I'm holding onto. No disconnects and no problems since I changed DNS can either be a coincidence or it actually works. The only way to find out for sure is to give it more time for more testing.

Still no disconnects, I luv it! I'm hoping they'll do a liveupdate/patch soon so I can fully test this.

Hmm are you working behind a router that's is on DHCP?
There is a option set a static IP to a MAC address in the router, but when I did that, it wouldn't affect me until I forced my system to use it too, but when I manually filled in the IP I lost all internet connection.

So to work around this I've just set the lease time for the DHCP IP to forever, that way it's pretty much static, however, this means I can assign a DNS server since it retrieves it automatically and I need DHCP cause if I turn it off both my girls won't have a internet connection nor tv.

Any suggestions?
I'd like to test this too, I only have a few disconnects per week, mainly in the shop, never from origin, but still I want to be totally rid of it.

I didn't change the DNS on my router, only my PC, so my family use the router as normal. On my PC I changed network settings from automatic to manually and added google dns instead of using the router or ISP as dns.

Before you change it to manually, just do this to find your computers ip http://www.wikihow.c...ess-of-Your-PC. In my case, 192.168.1.2 was my PCs IP so I changed it manually to 192.168.1.100 and the same gateway and subnet mask. If you mess it up somehow, you can always just set it back to automatic and you're back as it was.

Don't see how this'll help but since I wanted to switch to Google's DNS servers anyway with the great Dutch firewall starting to go up, I'll give it a shot. I'll report back later how it's going.

EDIT: First impression, still stuck on joining game when trying to play with my friend. Appears to have done nothing.
