Hi all,

I just started play Baldur's Gate 2 for the first time (first time I've played any D&D game actually).  When I got out of the first dungeon I had the six wand keys.  I hadn't identified any of them yet, and they were taking up space, so I dropped them on the ground before entering the circus tent (hoping they'd be there when I returned).  Well, they seem to be gone for good now, so, did I screw up?  How important/good were those wand keys?  Should I start over?

The wand keys had a use inside the dungeon you just left. Since you cannot return, there would be no point in holding on to them.

Spoiler:
The keys are used to acquire a few magical wands that otherwise serve as traps. They are in the room with the funny images on the ground, where a thief was killed by a magic missile in a cut scene (the first of the wands is a wand of magic missiles).

Sorry, forgot to mention I did use the keys in order to disable the traps, but I thought after you used the keys, they turn into wands, right? Do those wands have no use outside of the dungeon either?

You should have wands with 1 charge each then... sell them to a shop and buy them back fully charged or just sell them.

Anything dropped on the ground will disappear if left for too long (a day or so).  I guess therefore you must have rested while doing the circus quest.  If you want to keep things then stick them in any container rather than leaving them on the ground.

Further warning: This disappearance of unclaimed items does not depend on how long you've been away, it is simply a periodic cleaning of the entire game (I think it was every 3 days or so), so if you're unlucky it can happen after just stepping out for a few minutes, or the items could stay around for a few days. They will never disappear if you are still in the area.
