Is there a reason to give resources to Alliance members? I noticed they ask for gems and runes and such but what happens when you give these to them does it help them at all or is it merely a way to clear your packs of extra items

During the final part of the game, you can summon these armies to aid you in battle. They'll be stronger if you've given them resources. So basically the final part of the game will be a bit easier
