Is it just me or is the squad a lot less vocal during combat than in ME2?
I'm going through another playthrough of the second game right now, and I just love the action atmosphere with Garrus and Zaeed always barking "Yeah, damnit!", "That was cool...", "Didn't even see me coming!" when they took someone(thing) down.
It may seem like a minor detail, but I think it did for a lot for atmosphere during fights.

I miss them too.

I believe it was mentioned at one point that they actually had these in for ME3, but the audio team thought they were too annoying and took them out.

I really wish they hadn't, but what can you do, I guess.

Many thanks from the bottom of my heart to the audio team. Miranda shouting 'yea!', 'alright!' Makes me wish Shep would just choke her out and throw her in a storage locker or somewhere equally inconspicuous.

They could have done something about it instead of just taking it out completely. You know, maybe after a heavy firefight they'd shout something, or say something cheesy after a really quick one. But nooo.

Just whinning now, programing stuff like that is hard i imagine. Which is why no one does hard programming tricks for games anymore:?

Or maybe just program it so they didn't trigger every 5 seconds.

Mark me down as someone who misses the combat barks. They made the squad feel more alive. And it was nice of them to congratulate me on successful headshots.

I really miss this in Mass Effect 3. It adds an extra layer of depth to your squadmates and can help in combat. In the multiplayer the characters call out things like “atlas” or “pyros”. This helps to alert the player as to what is happening on the battlefield.

In Mass Effect 2 the squad voice effects would help tell you what that squadmate was doing, firing a concussive shot or deploying a combat drone. I really hope this is put into the game with a future patch or included in DLC.

Yeah, and the Cerberus mooks could at least shout a "GO! GO! GO!" or "ENEMIES EVERYWHERE" from time to time.

what squad banter?

I don't think they were annoying. They were kept very general, sometimes just shouts... I liked that. And yes, Tali with Chaceeta (...whatever way it's spelled correctly) was priceless. But Zaeed mumbling a stone cold "THAT was cool..." after you made an impossible shot, always made me grin every single time.

I wish they would bring back the spontaneous squad battle dialogue, as well. ME3's combat feels more centered around Shepard without it, but you still need to remember to use your squadmates or the AI will eat you up for breakfast. Might help the game feel more centered around small group tactics, like it should.

Combat certainly felt a lot more empty without squad comments, i would prefer to have them in

Why did they cut the squad combat dialog/taunts from ME3? I give you ME2 and Jacob. Dear God I wanted to empty every gun in the game into that guy with his irritating utterances (not to mention the barrier spam).

I missed that in ME3, too.  And details are really important, they add a soul to the game.

While I was a fan of those comments as well, I think they removed them for actual "banter" about what is happening during the mission. I'm a fan of both methods of dialogue, so no complaints here.

^^ Yeah, there's much much less mission-specific talk between your squad mates in ME2 than there was in ME3. E.g., I can't recall anything remotely like the suggestion to flank the turrets on Sur'Kesh being in ME2.

I liked the combat dialogue/comments/taunts, but I agree they were slightly overused. I think there was a happy medium that could have been found for ME3. Jack's "hello, dead people!" and Grunt's laugh were definitely highlights during firefights, but Jacob's "gravity's one mean mother" or Miranda's "YES!" every two seconds became kind of irritating after a while.

That was a simple introduction of a new gameplay mechanic, much like the geth colossus during Tali's recruitment mission in ME2. Except, obviously, it was your squad rather than an NPC this time.

There's also the bit at the start of ME2 on Freedom's Progress, where they include the bit about ordering squadmates into cover.

Those moments are few and far between in both games, really.

I miss them too, I wonder if you could mod the game to use some from ME2. I mean for characters like Tali, Garrus, Liara.

This.

The taunts were decent but I prefer the banter. I hated how squadmates just sat there and said nothing on certain missions in me2.

Well, you can also say that squadmates aren't so melodramatic in ME3. It's mostly just "Affirmative!" and "Understood!" Although after a while, when it became apparent that those were all they were going to say, I just imagined this scene playing out between me and my squadmates.

Brings back Jack since she had my favorite banter:
