Hello,

I've tried playing Baldur's Gate, but found out I can't quite keep up with having to have my mage character go back and forth to rest all the time. It really killed the enjoyment of the game for me. So I thought: surely somebody has created a mod that allowed characters rest anywhere?

Please help, otherwise I won't be able to ever play this game past the first town. The game is realy good <3, it's just that when the game mainly consists of walking it's not my cup of tea, unfortunately, I have a job and busy life and lack of time for that.

Hopefully somebody can help and point out what could possibly be done to solve the mage spell recharge problem. If not with resting anywhere, then with something else! ^_^

First of all, since apparently you are new to modding, get yourself acquainted with BG Tutu and BGT. Both would require the sequel (BG2) to be available, and either of them could be used as a basis for further modding.
In short:
Tutu imports the BG2 engine to BG1. This brings about a vast number of improvements but also alterations (the user interface looks different, spells may work differently, the people look differently).
BGT imports BG1 as a mod to BG2. The difference is that instead of 2 separate games, you have one big folder. Mods you install will generally work for both games. If you finish up with BG1, you can import your entire party (or at least those parts that are supposed to reach BG2 ie: Minsc, Jaheira, Imoen, Viconia and Edwin).

When you have made your choice, you can install the G3 Tweakpack, which has a component that is very fittingly called "rest anywhere".
Note that before and during the installation (of whichever mod), you should keep an eye on the readme. They will usually explain to you what else is required (like patches or even other mods).

Another way to solve your problem is to go to Baldur's Gate settings and simply increase the frames per second rate of the game to max 60 fps. That way when your character is walking, they are literally "speeding" across the screen.

As for the mage recharge, perhaps playing a mage isn't to your liking. A fighter could be far more suitable for your needs.

Humanoid_Taifun,

Thanks! I downloaded the tweaks and the mod is there, I'm really grateful. To be honest, I don't care for graphics and such, so I don't mind playing the original game rather than alternative compilations.

Shadow_Leech07,
Sorry but I adore mages, especially when an RPG is difficult and you need planning and versatile strategies, a mage class is great for that. And I heard that BG is one of hardest RPG games, so playing it as a mage will be double the fun! The solution is found anyway ;)

You will find that there are a lot of times that you can rest safely out in open country, without having to scurry back to an Inn for a snooze. Often it's safe to do so right at the edge of an area that you have just entered. At any rate, do a Quick Save, push Rest, and see what happens. If enemies pop up, you can either kill them for the XPs and try again, or reload and continue on unshaven, hungry and weary.
