No.
If you spare Loghain Alistair will always leave the party, though from what I understand if you've hardened him he'll still accept kingship in the end.

Not always. He'll only take the throne if you've married him off to Anora. Otherwise, he gives up his throne and the Wardens and is only mentioned as a drunk in a bar in the epilogue. At least, this is what I've come across. The game has so many darn endings, it might be possible to get him on the throne alone with Loghain in the party. If so, someone tell me how, I'm curious.

From my understanding there is no way to keep both.

If you've hardened him, he can still become king and rule with Anora. However, he won't care much about you anymore.
My female Human Noble had a 100 approval rating (love). Alistair was hardened and I had given him many gifts, including his amulet and Duncan's Shield.
I spared Loghain but Alistair left the party. I guess that's because I wanted to rule with Alistair.

Is this true? Completely breaks lore. There is no turning your back on the greywardens: the taint will bring you inexhorably towards the darkspawn... or vice versa

Doesn't really break lore, per se. He just leaves/ignores the order. He would probably still be fighting darkspawn. Would probably head off to the deep roads when his end neared. I would also assume that the Wardens would send out hunters for him. I mean he has important, valuable secrets about the order as well as having taken an oath. So I would assume his life would be forfeit at that point, but it doesn't exactly break lore. It doesn't say anything about him not getting into battles with darkspawn at all, just that he's a drunk most of the time.
Besides... Wardens and Darkspawn aren't drawn together. They are able to sense each other if they are close enough. There is a difference.
