Extended duration/Shotgun builds.
Lots of fun though, with the MQI/Claymore and Arc Grenades.

Not taking area scan is not a big mistake. And about weapons, this class is equally effective with shotguns or sniper rifles. Just depends on what playstyle you prefer.Zikel wrote...
Did I make a big mistake not taking area scan, and going for longer TC, should I just respec and give him a shotgun instead of a sniper rifle.

Ok, so I unlocked this guy yesterday and had level 13 to start from cards. I was really excited to try him out... and brought him to a silver match and promptly got my clock cleaned.
I'm a pretty good player, but my comfort zone is with salarians (SI and SE I frequently take to Gold and Platinum and do fine) and also I unlocked the Fury, Demolisher, and Destroyer N7's and had no trouble at all.
So I'm asking how do people generally play this class? I spec'd cloak for damage and brought an Eviscerator V Shotgun, but I wasn't one-shotting the Geth like I expected, and they then killed me.
I tried scanning first, then cloaking and firing, and it still wasn't doing it. How is the class "supposed" to work? Do I just need to bring a better shotgun? I have a Claymore VII, but I HATE only having 1 shot. IS the idea to cloak and 1-shot enemies or am I doing it wrong?
Again, I like the class, and want to make it work, but from reading this it seems that the optimal build is to cloak and use grenades ftw. That's fine, but it's definitely not what I was doing, heh. What's the gig?
Claymore, piranha, reegar, GPS all work depending on your comfort zone. Spec out your grenades for max damage, the radius is sufficent. Cloak toss a grenade or two depending on the makeup of the spawnpoint and diffculty, tact scan whatever is left alive and kill the heck out of it with your weapon. Use your grenades on mooks and not on elites unless you're on a board like jade with plenty of grenades.
The eviscerator blows on a weapons based class. There are a lot better options, see above.
This should go without saying but hit the ammo boxes as you work your way around the board. Don't look like a squirrel on crack trying to gather grenades at the end of the wave. Use your ammo packs on objective waves and late waves where you need the extra nades and don't have time to get them.
Learn to max ur damage with grenades. If you see multiple enemies target the middle one. If you see one and there is hard cover that maybe hiding more throw so the outside radius hits seen mook and hopefully damages unseen mook.
Phantoms are kind of special because they have the damage protection sphere. If you don't bring up her target box and aim at a structure or enemy beside her, she will take damage assuming another teammate isn't targeting her with powers. Tact scan can slow their movement speed and really help.
As far as tact scan, area scan versus damage, can be debated. Starting out you probably would have greater utility using area scan IMO but later on you may want to go for straight damage.

Can't answer a lot of that, but area scan IS one of the most fascinating parts of it...you know how they give single player tips starting multiplayer, one about teammates doing more damaged when ordered to attack...well now it applies to multiplayer
If you have area, and tac scan with no target, then it does area around the player. If you are holding an area, e.g., for objective hacking, and you can't see which side they are coming from, this is a HUGE advantage.
