A few months ago I started my 2nd playthrough of DA:O. After reading the first 2 books, I decided to give the whole series a go in the correct order: 2 books, DA:O, DA:O:Awakening, DA2, Asunder.

But, my playthrough is on hold for 2 months now. Why? Because I just can't get myself to go through The Fade. It's so tedious. I absolutely love Dragon Age as a series, but this particular point is so damn frustrating, whenever I want to play DA:O, I think about that part. As soon as I press continue, I'm at the beginning of The Fade.

Does anyone have any tips on how to do it fast? Or give some warming/cheering comments, so I can give myself another chance. :D

I want to get further into the story before I forget what I was doing in my playthrough haha.

I play on Xbox

I'm not a big fan of the Fade either, but I've found that the more I play it, the less a nuisance it has become. It is a bit tedious, but you can complete it in 90-120 mins without too much fuss.

Of course, if you are on PC, you can use the mod to skip it altogether.

If you're playing on the PC there is a Skip the Fade mod...  (sigh, ninja'd )

And yeah, that mod exists because a lot of people also don't like replaying the Fade *over and over* again. Oddly, it was my favorite part the first time I played the game, but I liked it less and less the more I replayed it.

(cue cheering section)
You can do it, though! Just one more time, and then you can carry on with your grand plans of Dragon Age domination!

Oh, thank you guys for pointing me into the direction of that mod. But, sadly, I play it on Xbox
Maybe I have to mention that in the OP.

And thanks for the cheer. I will keep that in mind when trying again. ^_^
I do have a notation on my iPhone with what choices I made, and what kind of character I am. (I always do that)
So, I think I can continue without too much of "Hmm, what did I do before, and whom was I trying to romance?"

Dang it! I had a great walkthough I used to use for the fade, when I used to play on the xbox. It was by far the fastest route I had ever found playing the game, and used it to navigate as quickly as possible through the Fade. (oh, and I should admit to you, that I didn't concern myself after multiple play throughs, with getting all the attribute points...this made getting through the fade much faster...)

I have since changed computers, and never bothered setting up my old favorites.....can't remember which site it was on. Might check out GameFaqs though.....it might have been from one of those walk throughs.......

I don't really understand why people find The Fade more tedious than any of the other hundreds of routine battles you fight in order to get to the most interesting ones. If anything, it's at least a change of scenery. And the fact that I'm fighting alone means that I'll have play to my strengths and not rely on the usual party tactics. Seems more interesting to me, but obviously many disagree.

Anyway, I've done the Fade three times now and settled on the following order...

1) Weisshaupt Fortress - Kill Duncan
2) Raw Fade - Get Mouse form
3) Burning Tower - Get Burning Man form
4) Mages Asunder - Get Golem form - The golem fights here are the only ones in The Fade that I have to pay close attention to.
5) Darkspawn Invasion - Get Spirit form and all essences, kill boss. Done.
6) Weisshaupt - Get essence. Done.
7) Raw Fade, Burning Tower, Mages Asunder - Get remaining essences and kill bosses. Done.
8) Templar's Nightmare - Do it all. Done.
9) Save companions and fight Sloth.

Seems pretty efficient. I think it took maybe an hour or so to get to the Sloth battle last time.

Yeah yeah, I did it yesterday. Started up the game, turned down difficulty from Nightmare to Easy, and completed it in 1 hour and 10 minutes. I even made fun of Alistair again. Now I can fully enjoy it again wooh.

The Fade can be survived only by metagamming...

I usually do this

- Kill Duncan (everybody do that first anyway), get mouse form after meeting Nial
- Burning Tower, to get Burning Man form, there are a lot of fire barricade, get this first, and Burning Tower is not as hard as other places
- Mage Assunder, this is the hardest part for me in the Fade because of those crazy mages. As non-mage character, i will fireball them as quick as i can then run away, then fireball again. As a mage not much problem with Mana Clash or any other spells. get Golem form, break the locked door, kill everything there in Golem form, get some attribute points
- Darkspawn Invasion, kill every darkspawn in Golem form, get attribute points, get Arcane Horror form
- Then go back to Weissup Fortress to get attribute point
- back to Niall, kill Yevena as the first demon beind hidden room, use crushing prison on her as fast as you can, then winter grasp, quickly change to Golem form to finish other demons, get attribute point
- get out, then wander around there where you meet mouse and those rage demons, get attribute point in hidden room
- then back to Burning Tower, get attribute points in hidden room and locked room, kill second demon
- back to Mage Assunder, fight Golems in hidden room, usually i crushing prison one of them first, get attribute points, kill 3rd demon
- back to darkspawn invasion, kill 4th demon
- Templar Nightmare as last place, and this time it is all easy, but beware of Arcane Horrors, their spells are powerful. It is quite confusing but once you know which hole and portal to get through it become easy, get every attribute points there, kill the last demon
- free companions on each nightmares
- kill sloth demon

good luck!

Can only be survived by metagaming? Uh, no, no usually I don't plan and even if it bores me, my char rarely bites it.
