I would love to have Duncan back in the game. I mean, all the previewers said that Duncan was going to be some kind of mentor/father figure to the player, but all he did was walk out of the door in my castle kitchen with me, then get himself killed barely two days later. So much for a mentor. I do, however, believe that the survival of another Grey Warden would hurt the plot too much, and I REALLY don't want another warrior (unless by some miracle it's Duncan), so I'm hoping for a second mabari, with a puppy in the making. Problem is though, Ostagar lacked a lot of interesting characters - save the ones who's deaths were essential to the plot. Perhaps the revered mother might have survived? That might make for some interesting dialogue with Morrigan. Anyway, I just hope whoever the survivor is, that they get to join your party and that they have an interesting backstory.

That deserter from earlier is dead. You can even see his corpse in one of the screen shots. As for Duncan surviving, I doubt it. The beard, of course, did. But Duncan was only the latest to be granted the honor of 'Beard Guardian'.



And no, there won't be another Mabari. It's just for those who missed Dog the first time around. If you got him the first time around, that's that. One of the Ash Warriors may be a survivor, or it could be some as of yet unnamed Bann. And there won't be another companion for this DLC. Maybe in the upcoming (hopefully) expansion.

Then I bet the survivor is some unlucky guy who was near when Duncan died and could not resist the call of the Beard...

Plus there's nothing to say that the survivor at Ostagar survives your return. You may return to someone like Hespith or Danyla and have the choice of letting their pain and torment overwhelm them or performing a mercy killing.



I'm just eager to get Cailin's armor and weapons. (That'll REALLY freak Anora out when I marry Alistair off to her...)

why would you want it?  after what the ogre did to him, his armor must look like a crushed pop can...

Pretty sure he means the new set or armor gifted to you ;p

The armor set can pretty much be made if you know how to use the toolset, and the shield/sword are just little reskins of pre-existing items.  I wish Bioware would actually make additional models rather than reskinning previous items.

Anything could happen, considering these two basic facts :

1) Shale was not supposed to be a DLC at the beggining (right?)

2) Look at Shale's trailer. You clearly see some images of Ostagar in its snowy background.



Therefore, if there IS going to be a change (hope not), then it was voice acted already... or maybe not!

If you ask the bandit outside Lothering about survivors coming from the South, he mentions that he gave a group of Ash warriors a wide berth, so I consider that they are already accounted for.

I think that the survivor will not be Duncan as he started having nightmares indicating that the taint is sparing him no longer, even if the batlle had been won Duncan would have died. In the cutscene Duncan had time to react to the approaching hurlock, my guess is that he knew he was going to die so why not die along side the king.

What's all this survivor talk? Is there supposed to be a survivor in the Return to Ostagar DLC? Sorry, for sounding noobish i haven't been here in a while.



Also, what day exactly is Return to Ostagar coming out?

Having Duncan or Cailin would be too impacting to the overall story for either of them to be the survivor so I don't think it is possible. Having another Grey Warden would also be a little strange also because you play as the most green Grey Warden and just about any other Warden would be your senior and cause issues with the story. It also can't be the dude in the cage because I already killed him.



My hope would be that chick warrior that Daveth was hitting up in Ostagar when you meet him.
