I would love for some input on this from Bioware.

I highly enjoy ME3's MP and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. But there's always a few nagging questions in the back of my head:

What happens when the servers are finally shut down?

Seeing as everything including our unlocks are stored on the servers, does it all become lost?

My hope is that Bioware will put out a patch near the end of the game's MP life that will allow us to download everything we've unlocked to our Xboxes and be able to either play solo offline or with friends through system link.

Even though it's still early on in ME3's MP life, it would be nice if Bioware could shed some light on this subject. I know it would make me feel a bit better about all of the work I've put into this game and I'm sure it will for some of you as well.

Thanks for reading.

*** I've created a group for people to join to show their support for the addition of offline play when the servers are shut down. Everyone is welcome to join. Here's the link: Infinite Mass ***

It is rather odd that this game's multiplayer can't be played offline or even with bots when you look at games like Gears of War 2 and 3 and Unreal Tournament 3. This game runs on the same engine as those games (Unreal Engine 3), so Bioware can't use the "it can't be done" defence that so many of this generation's game developers just love to use.

When its done its done. That's how online games work.

They will probably make another MP Mass Effect in the future.

Damn, never thought about that. I spend all this time trying to unlock everything, and it might just not matter when they shut everything down?

My actions don't matter!*

That was my thinking.

Plus with the amount of hours invested in unlocking everything, which as of now, you need to get almost 1,000 different cards to max your manifest, it would be nice to know that it won't just disappear in the blink of an eye when the servers are turned off.

I've spent countless hours on games like Gears of War and Halo, but I always knew that I would be able to keep everything I earned.

Hopefully someone from Bioware can give us some info. It doesn't have to be a definite answer, just some sort of hope would be nice.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to enjoy this game just because a new one comes out.

I'm sure there will be people that prefer the ME3 MP over the MP in the next Mass Effect( if there is one and it has MP). It's not uncommon with games that have MP and sequels. There are always people that prefer different versions, and in most cases system link is still an option.

Also, a good number of games do allow you to keep your unlocks after the servers are shut down since the unlocks are stored client side and not server side.

I have thought about this and I have some ideas. I was thinking of play4free, standalone game, expand to include facebook players.

but that would stop us buying the next game...

It is a shame & this should happen but I don't think EA work on brand loyalty. They are just to big and the whole long tail economics seems to not have worked out. While ARMA 2 sales have gone mad from the Day Z but that is a game mod. Origin/ME3 stops even single player mods from being used easily for legit copies & is locking down Fan work to promote Paid DLC with minimum work.

What would be better is something like ...Steam works. I know that there is no way they will work with steam but they may try to sort their own version but it will be to late for ME3 even if they can get it to work.

EA sell yearly refreshes of AAA+ games. Good games have about a 3 year production cycle. Not sure how this will work out for Bio ware brands but long term support is not part of the EA business model.

Hopefully CD Projekt RED will shake up business practices enough to force a change of policy from EA to make games less disposable & more long term items.

We shall see.

Thankfully I only spent $20 in leftover MS points on packs when this game came out. I can't begin to think about how the people who spent over $100 will feel if it's all gone in the blink of an eye.

I would go as far as to pay for DLC that allowed me to play offline and save everything I've unlocked. Granted, the DLC would have to come out when the servers are going to be shut down, but a few dollars to save so many hours(or in other cases, packs purchased) worth of time invested seems like a good idea to me.

BioWare will say: "We all know you love ME3 very much, but we had to install it on an ever bigger computer way out in the country where it can run all day long and play without even stopping. We know you'll miss it, and it will miss you too, but just think of all the fun it's going to have!" And we'll all cry a little, but then we'll move on.

If you think about it.......what happens when the next gen consoles arrive???.........all present DLC will become redundant and unless you've stored the DLC game content you've bought over the years, there's a chance it's all going to be wiped.

That's the joy of "game of the year editions".........it's all on the disc.

While I have no faith in EA, I do believe in BioWare.

For all of the complaints people have with some of the things they do, they are still one ofthe best companies as far as fan service goes. They try to listen to the community and do things they think people will enjoy, especially with the MP.

Obviously not everyone will like everything, but at least they're trying and I respect them for it.

Because of this, I have hope that they may create a solution for this when the time comes.

What of it?

Why would it change being able to play ME3 offline or through system link?

Just because Halo:Reach is newer and online, that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of people still playing and enjoying Halo 2 through system link.

Still doesn't mean an option for offline ME3 should be out of the question when MP's life cycle is over.

I've spent a lot more time in MP than SP. I'm a big supporter of the Horde-style game type and will continue to be. Just because a new game may come out doesn't mean I can't enjoy this one.

Not everyone believes newer is better. In almost every game series, the communities are divided as to which of the installments are their favorite, whether it's due to MP or SP.

I'm sure there will be people who prefer ME3's MP over the newer one.

When Dragon Age: Legends was taken offline, players could download their data and play the entire thing offline. That said, Legends was a facebook game with a much smaller player base.

But at least it shows that it has a chance of happening.

I don't expect BioWare to make any concrete statement, just something along the lines of it being a possibility.

im not so sure the dlc content will be gone once the next xbox comes out (cant talk for sony here of course). Well cant talk for Microsoft either but as a lot more people bought stuff for the 360 than for its predecessor and even that one has games still offered on the store to dl and play.

Just saying, hardly can imagine for it to go from 100 to zero immediately...

On the last day, everyone will get everything at X for free and 255 in all mods, then one day after, servers are shut :)

The problem with taking the ME3 servers offline would likely lie with the matchmaking service. Saving unlocks + the store system offline might not be too hard, but changing the way connecting works to not rely on a central server could be a problem - I'm not 100% sure on how the system works. Maybe private matches only?

On the other hand, I'd have all the time in the world to learn how to solo platinum using no equipment :)
