It all depends on the popularity. They kept Burnout Revenge for the Xbox360 running for 5 years, Godfather II for 3 years and Space Parts for 1 year.
As long as people play the games, the servers will run. When we move on to other games, the servers will be shut down and all the online content for those games will be lost.
Edit: They have a list of shut down games. Did you play any of these? I know I wanted to play some NFS a year ago and was unable to connect.

On the last day, everyone will get everything at X for free and 255 in all mods, then one day after, servers are shut
That would be a cruel joke, lol.
But since you mention it, I had considered how they would allow offline play even though we have things like consumables.
I figure the patch for offline could allow you to have the capacity cap of 5 for all 4 in game consumables each game and they could change it so that equipment doesn't have a decreasing number. In other words, you would have all levels of ammo, armor and weapon equipment unlocks and you could just choose which ones you wanted to use each game like how the permanent gear slot works.
I doubt they would be able to transfer the pack unlock system over to client side, so they may have to find a way to rework how things are unlocked after the server shut down so that people still have the possibility of progression.

Thankfully I only spent $20 in leftover MS points on packs when this game came out. I can't begin to think about how the people who spent over $100 will feel if it's all gone in the blink of an eye.
Probably better than they would have if they'd spent the money on cigarettes, alcohol or a lot of other things

Still a large investment in hoping to unlock something that may eventually be taken away. That's if you even managed to unlock what you were hoping for due to the RNG store.
I actually believe some people that haven't done so may decide to spend money if they know that they will always have whatever they unlock.

It has to stop? Sure they may stop uppdating it and such but does that mean that we won't be able to play the game?
If, like most online games, the servers are shut down, then yes.
Multiplayer will become inaccessible and all of your unlocks will be erased.

Damn, never thought about that. I spend all this time trying to unlock everything, and it might just not matter when they shut everything down?
My actions don't matter!*

People will just rationalise it away as "I got my money's worth" or "Would have used it for beer anyway". This risk affects all MMORPGs which is why if you've played one, you'll know why some shake their head when they hear of others spending real money for one byte of data in a database

I get what you're saying and I agree. Although as I had mentioned earlier, BioWare has the possibility to boost pack purchases by creating a patch for offline use after the server shut down. I do believe that people will be willing to spend money if they know that whatever they unlock will stay with them. I'm sure it will cause a good number of people to actually buy packs with money for the first time.

For those of us who have spent real life money. I believe EA will give you credits to spend on other titles once this game is shut down.
You wish.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. Nothing about EA says that they would be willing to lose money on future micro transactions.
That's why I hope BioWare seriously considers this patch because I can almost guarantee EA doesn't care.

I'd personally prefer the cigarettes, alchol and etc.
To the op - you go play something else.

Who knows what their EA masters will allow Bioware to do though?

They did allow BioWare to make free MP DLC, so anything is possible.

Although there is the possibility that BioWare has already planned something like this.
If not, maybe this topic and the included group can have enough support by the end of ME3's MP run that they at least consider it.

I would love for some input on this from Bioware.
I highly enjoy ME3's MP and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. But there's always a few nagging questions in the back of my head:
What happens when the servers are finally shut down?
Seeing as everything including our unlocks are stored on the servers, does it all become lost?
My hope is that Bioware will put out a patch near the end of the game's MP life that will allow us to download everything we've unlocked to our Xboxes and be able to either play solo offline or with friends through system link.
Even though it's still early on in ME3's MP life, it would be nice if Bioware could shed some light on this subject. I know it would make me feel a bit better about all of the work I've put into this game and I'm sure it will for some of you as well.
Thanks for reading.
*** I've created a group for people to join to show their support for the addition of offline play when the servers are shut down. Everyone is welcome to join. Here's the link: Infinite Mass ***
The cycle has repeated itself more times you can fathom.....

Recently, some companies have started to only include download codes for the DLC on their game of the year editions...darkway1 wrote...
If you think about it.......what happens when the next gen consoles arrive???.........all present DLC will become redundant and unless you've stored the DLC game content you've bought over the years, there's a chance it's all going to be wiped.
That's the joy of "game of the year editions".........it's all on the disc.
