Damn, never thought about that. I spend all this time trying to unlock everything, and it might just not matter when they shut everything down?

My actions don't matter!*

None of it matters, every human in the scheme of all things is just as valuable as a grain of sand. if we all died tomorrow the universe would only have lost something as insignificant to us as a fart we did ten years ago whilst sleeping.

Only kidding but there will always be new multiplayers and always be stuff we unlocked that we cant use again,
Thats multiplayer gaming life :)

It's an excuse for always on DRM.

You know I read that sentence and I think something in my brain just snapped.
WHY DO GAMES NEED ALWAYS ON DRM?
The witcher games already proved that DRM is pointless because hackers will go after the DRM not the games.
Like patch of honor. Cracked by iNOOB or something.

Seriously would like to ask some EA/ Bioware people why they use DRM in the first place.
It's not doing anything that's for sure... Oh wait it is harming the peoples enjoyment out of games, taking away resources from the games and limiting developers into the DRMs constraints.
I'm seriously starting to think that DRM is just in place for investors nowadays.

it will probly end as ME1 did, as they transfer anything that can sell, while some patch is made in the shadows that we have to find for the free stuff, with that GIB(?) (something called gib? rewrites stuff so stuff like war effort is 100%?) gaining a sticky somewhere so that we can enjoy an old favorite

It is rather odd that this game's multiplayer can't be played offline or even with bots when you look at games like Gears of War 2 and 3 and Unreal Tournament 3. This game runs on the same engine as those games (Unreal Engine 3), so Bioware can't use the "it can't be done" defence that so many of this generation's game developers just love to use.

Agreed - I hope that 1) we get to play the game offline, maybe system-link, with what we've unlocked.

But I also hope that, depending on how much we unlocked/accomplished we will receive bonuses when we play the next ME3 game, scaled to each particular player's achievements.

Exactly. The unlocks in the next ME game based on progress would just be a great bonus.

BioWare seems to be big on fan service, so hopefully it will happen.

One thing I'm concerned about is what happens if you play SP later. Say, for people who buy the game this winter or next year. If MP is no longer supported, it won't be possible to get the N7 bonuses from promoting characters (not that it really matters) or get Galaxy at War up to 100%.

Which is even more reason that I'm hoping BioWare has an offline plan in place.

Which is why I'm currently playing through ME2 one more time to get the story setup that I'm looking for, when that's just about set, I'll get my galaxy readiness back up to 100% and then get the benefit of multiplayer for at least one playthrough of ME3 single player campaign.

I'd certainly like to see this, but as is, there's little reason for EA to actually do this, since they don't profit from it. However, I could see them releasing a paid DLC that would transfer your unlocks and GAW status clientside and allow you to play solo or local connection multiplayer games.

Which I would be more than happy to pay for. Spending $10-15 to keep everything I've played hundreds of hours to unlock is fine by me.

Being able to system link would just be all the more reason to buy it.

Everyone will move on to better games, and or BW will announce a ME MMO or a ME4 and then we'll all play that @.@

That's a very incorrect statement.

Unreal Engine 3 is a graphics engine, not the entire game engine. Programming involves a lot more than graphics. If the MP mode was never coded for offline play or cooperative AI, it's actually very possible that redesigning it through patchwork couldn't be a doable task. When developers say, "it can't be done", it's because it can't be done. Things don't just magically happen; coding is very tricky, and very exact. Creativity is limited by the console's resources, the money and time and staff available, the native coding of the game on the disc, etc.

I'd advise against making absolute statements like this when you're not actually all that knowledgable of the subject about which you're talking.

I would love for some input on this from Bioware.

I highly enjoy ME3's MP and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. But there's always a few nagging questions in the back of my head:

What happens when the servers are finally shut down?

Seeing as everything including our unlocks are stored on the servers, does it all become lost?

My hope is that Bioware will put out a patch near the end of the game's MP life that will allow us to download everything we've unlocked to our Xboxes and be able to either play solo offline or with friends through system link.

Even though it's still early on in ME3's MP life, it would be nice if Bioware could shed some light on this subject. I know it would make me feel a bit better about all of the work I've put into this game and I'm sure it will for some of you as well.

Thanks for reading.

*** I've created a group for people to join to show their support for the addition of offline play when the servers are shut down. Everyone is welcome to join. Here's the link: Infinite Mass ***

DLC that lets us transfer our data into a new mass effect game to further our progress.

If you think about it.......what happens when the next gen consoles arrive???.........all present DLC will become redundant and unless you've stored the DLC game content you've bought over the years, there's a chance it's all going to be wiped.

That's the joy of "game of the year editions".........it's all on the disc.

Not necessarily - there are lots of games that go to GotY editions that don't reprint the disc to include the DLC on it (Borderlands is the first that springs to mind, even though they evetually added it on in a later disc print run), and you're given a code at purchase to download it yourself.

That's the beauty of computers though - I've got a TON of PS3 games and when I'm older (heaven forbid!) there should be some smart cookie out there who'll write a PS3 Emulator so I can play all my old games again ^_^

I think I'll keep supporting games that include these things out of the box. Games that are actually finished, aren't crippled by DRM, and don't  shamelessly attempt to milk me for as many post-purchase $$$ as possible.

Regular Origin (still beta!) multiplayer isn't entirely finished (or at least behaves like it) I don't see any reason for this to change in the future. And I'm sure there will be plenty of "unofficial patches" floating around at the end of ME3's life that will make it playable independent of Origin. I can't imagine the multiplayer that exists now being popular enough to bother with in the future.

When its done its done. That's how online games work.

They will probably make another MP Mass Effect in the future.

Yes, I think the same way and agree with you!

After all, what other reason would be to create a multiplayer Bioware and feeds it with so many free DLC, creating new characters, weapons, mods and scenarios?

And what other reason would we have, we play for endless hours, trying all this, but hope that ME3 is not the last game of the franchise and soon to receive the good news that they want to create a multiplayer game?

We are here discussing improvements and suggesting solutions almost every day, because we love the game and really would be great to extend this experience to a new game, revised and improved.

After 1 day, our group is 25 supporters strong.

Remember to join the group if you would like to see an offline MP patch when the servers are shut down.

I go play Halo 4. I haven't put any money into the MP, so I'll lose nothing when it shuts down as long as Halo 4 arrives before it does.

Even without spending money, unlocking things in this game is insanely time consuming, especially with the RNG store.

Plus, I really enjoy the MP and would like to be able to enjoy it even when the servers are eventually shut down.

It won't be such a big problem with the singleplayer I think. When the servers shut down, will also the verification checks shut down, so it is nothing stopping clever people from making a work-around hack or whatnot to keep the game running in offline mode.

The multiplayer can probably be harder, but I know so little about such things so I just wish at least :)

Oh no, a game I enjoy playing is time-consuming!
Unless this game pulls a Halo 2 and still has people playing it when the servers are shut down, I doubt it'll last long enough to warrant a shutting-down of their servers.

Games have their servers shut down all the time.

EA is notorious for it.

I'm not sure what you're getting at.

This multiplayer has a lot of potential. It just needs more new content to keep people collecting stuff.

I wont stop until I have every weapon and character upgraded to max.

EA has given you a perfectly understandable track record:

They will pull the cord and you will get nothing.
