I tried installing 1.02 overtop my already patched DA and I get this stupid error.
So I reinstall EVERYTHING including toolset, remove settings, remove saved games, full reinstall.
The only thing I install is the DLC that requires 1.0 and then try to run 1.02...ERROR 36.
I can only reinstall this game so many times before I just give up and stop playing. I really like the 1.02 changes and playing without is just silly.
Any fix for this yet?
Am I the only that is getting error 36 for Patch 1.02?

nope, you're not the only one with this problem. I'm asking around, but i'm not getting many definitive answers. Someone on the board said something about uninstalling, removing some scattered files (didn't say which), reinstalling, immediately followed by 1.02a update, and that it worked for him. I tried myself and got the same error again. seriously aggravating.

Since 1.01a and 1.01b work fine and do NOT use RTPatcher, I'm leaning towards an error with RTPatcher screwing up.
I noticed on the DOS command windows when the patch is verifying the patched files, it says "32bit" at the top of the cmd window along with the RTPatcher title.
Not sure if that has anything to do with it because I can't seem to get this to work. Even after FOUR FRESH INSTALLS.

I explained what to do if this error cropped up in another thread (after spending a lot of time working on it), but that one seems to have gone missing, so I'll post it again.
How to Fix patch error -[36] with no help from Bioware or EA:
First thing to do is uninstall Dragon Age completely.
After that, navigate to your user folder, find any mention of bioware / dragon age and delete them (you may want to back up your save games). If there are any other mentions of Bioware or Dragon Age on your hdd, get rid of them also.
Do the same in regedit (Bioware's uninstall frequently leaves registry keys behind, and this can cause issues when you try to reinstall). Everything should be under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\\\Software\\\\Bioware (just delete the Bioware key)
Reboot, then do your basic install (I always change my install folder to C:\\Games, don't know if that makes a difference, but I've never liked the "program files" set up for gaming). I also run the setup directly off the disc with administrator privileges, not from the Autorun.
After that, leave your disc in the drive, then download the 1.02/a patch, copy them into your base install folder, and run them with administrator privileges. You may need to right-click on the Dragon Age install folder first and uncheck "Read Only". If you do, make sure to apply it to all files and folders.
Viola, your game should be patched up and running. I had a few issues with playing with the disc in my dvd drive (appears like my drive is trying to read the disc faster than the disc is capable of being read. Gawds what a horrible grinding noise it makes), so you may need to find something to deal with that if it crops up as an issue. Copying the contents of the disc to a folder on my C: and then mounting the folder in to a virtual drive fixed it for me.
Oh, NB: If you use mods or DLC, make sure to install them after the patch. Can't help any of you with the toolset though. Tried to load it, got confronted by aload of gobbledy-****** that may as well have been klingon for all I understood, and gave up on it.

I'll give that a try, I tried some of those tips beforehand, but I didn't do all of them at the same time. I tried unchecking read-only, but never had the patch in my base install. So maybe two and two together will net me a clean patch.
You say to install DLC AFTER the patch...I thought WK and SP require 1.0?

Well, thanks for the tips but they did not help. In fact, error 36 actually appeared SOONER. The RTPatch wouldn't even "verify" a single file it was going to patch. Haha.
Please get a working 1.02 patch!!! Preferably without RTPatch.

Well, I am just going to not play this game or purchase the new DLC until this patch is fixed.
RTPatch is having problems on my system and I still haven't figured out how to fix it.

i have the same problem, im pretty much over this pos game already, taken me 9 hours to get it installed and i cant patch it at all.. only cost me 50 bucks so ill get over it. The dudes at EA/bioware couldnt give a SH!$% cause they already have your money. my advice is read the forums before u buy a game.

Well, I've just recently tried installing the patch while in safe mode and it worked.
The question is, what service or program was running that was keeping the patch from installing in non-safe mode?

I tried going from 1.02 to 1.02a and I am also getting this error. No problems with any previous patches. Also tried patching from safe mode with no success.

i made a copy of all my folders on Dragon Age and then I uninstalled the game after re-installing the game i cut my folders onto the new Dragon age folder and then got rid of the folders which i did not need.
After that i loaded the game to see if i had my save files and my game ad ons (Stone prisoner, return to ostagar.....) as they worked i went bak to the patches DO NOT install all of the patches ONLY 1.02a as it normaly wont work if you run the patches from the first to the last patch!
This worked for me I hope it works for you!

Ok I have an irritating problem. I installed the patch no problem, but when I get into the game nothing has changed all bugs and glitches present!! So did I miss something? before anyone suggests using the patch again I have tried NOW I get error 36 on some file of core package data/designer or something of similiar nature...so what am I supposed to do?
