Is the connecting to servers/DLC check supposed to lock up my computer for 20 seconds each time I go to the main menu? And why does it have to check

Every.
Time.
I go there.

Why do I even have to go through the EA Criminal Background Check at all? Are they afraid I've stolen the *FREE* DLC they gave me? That I somehow managed to steal it even though I already had it five minutes ago, when I get dropped back to the main menu when multiplayer drops its connection completely?

Why am I even connecting to EA servers at all if I'm not updating/playing multiplayer?

It's kind of ridiculous, and I'm getting really tired of it.

It's really annoying to have it sit there authenticating DLC (leaving you unable to actually do anything) every single time you drop back to the menu, I agree.

I agree with you Mr. Vakarian. Why can't it check it at time of install and just be done with it. I keep Origin open why can't Origin pass the message along? "This guy is cool, let him through."

Yeah, I started to get annoyed by the constant authentication check after the first major DLC they released. My computer with Steam and MSE starting up at log on boots a lot faster than ME3. At least in ME2, you could disable the connection to Bioware's network (although it really never sped up the loading process). I could literally drop a deuce and then clean myself much faster than it takes for this game to load.

There's nothing that builds customer loyalty better than treating us all as potential criminals every time we see the main menu.

I wouldn't have such an issue with it if they could fix it to check less obtrusively, if not less often. Maybe they can calibrate it better...

Well, I feel better that I'm not alone on this anyway. I'm not really getting my hopes up that it will ever be improved, and I think it's kind of sad.

Just disconnect from the internet. It will no longer attempt DLC authentication and it will be much faster.

Yeah, crippling everything else going on on my computer just to get past EA's DRM (which didn't stop it from being copied anyway) isn't really a better option.

What happens if you block EA's IP in PeerBlock? Will it still attempt the connection? This is something I'll try later today.

Use offline mode in Origin.

Problem solved.

Can you still go online with all DLC active when you are offline in origin?
Cause it totally doesn't sound like EA to create a way around their own DRM.

You can't play multiplayer obviously, but SP + DLC comtent works fine. I used it to play SP when the last server outage occurred.

The screen freeze on main menu is SO annoying. I really wish companies would take a long hard look at their DRM methods and how they ****** off actual customers (because lets face it, the pirates arent going to have the authentication check anyway...)

It should only check when you join multiplayer, maybe doing it in the background while the game loads

Or it should just do it once per startup and not have to do it again for that session.

This right here makes a lot of since to me. And I could totally dig that. As I would like to think ME3 saves Authentication data for the duration of a session.

How I wish that were true. With the server disconnects running rampant lately, I have to log out of MP every time I edit something on a character or I lose connection a few minutes later and none of the changes I made took. And every time I log out of MP back to the main menu, it does that <insert expletive> DLC check.

We still go out and buy their games. I guess we have to live with this evil

Even if Origin is in offline mode, ME3 isn't. It still attempts DLC authorization.

Yes, this check-all-the-time thing is very annoying. And well, I play multiplayer, so I have to be online all the time...!

Interestingly when I first got the game I had no DLC at all and the same checks, lasting the same amount of time, still happened! So, since there was no DLC there for it to check it could not have been checking any DLC at all. Hmm.

It makes you wonder what it is really doing whilst claiming to be checking DLC, as I can absolutely confirm that it is not just about checking DLC.

This is a reason why people always looking for a pirated copy if they are only interested in a SP but if you want MP then you simply need to accept their system.

Probing or not, once a day is enough.
