I'm one of those players that tries to grab all the possible party members as soon as possible. After Lothering, this is what I do and my reasonings:

1) Soldier's Peak: It's quick and allows me to grab a nice set of armor and VERY useful storage space for my party.

2) Mage Tower: (Due to the length of this one, I dump as much as I can - that I don't wish to sell - into the storage bin at Soldier's Peak beforehand.) To grab Wynne and the stat bonuses.

3) Honnleath: (After grabbing Zevran along the way during the random encounter.) Another quick one that allows me to grab Shale.

4) Orzammar: (This being longest of the 4 main quests, I once again make a trip to Soldier's peak beforehand to dump as much of my inventory into the storage bin.) This allows me to grab Oghren.

5) Denerim: Mostly so I can grab the quest for collecting "Corpse Gall", which is far easier to accomplish before going to Redcliffe. I can also do Alistair's and Leliana's personal quest here too.

6) Recliffe: So I can eventually get dragon scales for Wade's armors.

7) Brecillian Forest: To wrap up the 4 sub-quests.

after recruiting Morrigan? Play the rest of the game with one hand, of course!

I always go Mage Tower

(a) best part of the game, IMHO. The other areas are just cut short in comparison.

(B) you get a ton of extras for your main which compensate for the fact you need to give him coercion.

© you get Wynne which is IMHO much better than Morrigan unless you have the respec mod or likewise to fix Morrigans spell selection.

I always go to Lothering (to fetch Frenchy and occasionally Sten) and then to Denerim to pick up some cash and a few experience points with the side quests. Then I go get Shale and head back to camp to talk to my party and work out who I can equip with what. After that it varies, but I always end with Orzammer. I fine the Deep Roads the most difficult and I need to make sure I've either picked up Wynne or made Morrigan a healer first.

So at the beginning of the game when Morrigan rejoins your party, what do you normally do

Mage Tower ASAP, to get the stat boosters. After that I go where I feel like going, taking the quests I feel like taking :P

Before you start your playthough consider who will make up your main choice of 4 in the party. Also consider who you will take at times when your forced to take certain party choices. Example Wynne in the mage tower, and the ginger doorf in the final leg of the paragon quest. I tend to keep Morrigan in the party unless my PC is going to fulfill her role which I see as crowd control/dps mage. She can be a difficult party member at times but after a couple of playthoughs you learn to drop members from the group when you take a course they disaprove of. You can't do this all the time, but its quite easily done early on in Lothering and Redcliffe.

Your choice of party members should have a bearing on which order you do your playthough bearing in mind maxing xp, approval and getting those juicy items as soon as you can. Once I've completed all of Lothering, I usually go to the mage tower. I would consider Honleath first if I was going to drop Alistair for Shale, but I prefer Alistair as my party tank. Reasons for Mage tower first is the stat increases gained, and you will get the chance to raise your coersion? to a level that will help two of the Redcliffe village quests. In most cases I prefer this order..

Lothering

Mage Tower

Honleath

Redcliffe Village

Denerim

Side Quests until approx level 12...

Soldiers Peak for starfang and Warden armour at tier 5.

Sacred Ashes

Denerim

Morrigan and Lelianna character quests and drake/dragon armour.

Orzimar

Denerim

Elvish forest

Tidy up quest log at various locations

Back to Denerim for landsmeet..

This is what works best for me so far!

I generally consider having another Farscape marathon, because I love Claudia Black.

After a few episodes, I visit Lothering. Followed by Redcliffe or the Mage Tower.

I like to have Morrigan around pretty much all the time, she doesn't bug me when I do good things and she's actually pretty cool if she likes you, I like having her and Wayne and Leliana. Morrigan for the damage she can deal on enemies, Wayne for the healling and Leliana for looting locked boxes. I also like have the arcane thing installed on both Morrigan and Wayne. The order to complete though is a question for me. I usually go along, I beat it once but it was tough as hell for me even on easy as I'm new to this kind of games so I'm looking for ideas here lol.

I believe our beloved Mabari has claimed this record. I personally wouldn't enjoy having to contest against him either. He's level 20 with a damned powerful Overwhelm. :?

I normally head straight for Orzammar to get it out of the way and to get Topsider's Honour. Maybe this time I'll head straight to Denerim and just forget all about the blight though. That way there really can be a happy "ever" after. B)

p.s. I keep hearing about people getting drake scales in the mage's tower, I have NEVER, I repeat, NEVER even seen a single drake in the mages tower in the 6 or 7 times I've cleared it. Where the heck are you guys getting drake scales in the mage's tower?

Really? That's strange. After you kill the sloth demon and leave the fade, the next area of the tower has several dragonlings and a locked chest with 3 (or is it 2?) drakescales in it. In the next room after that you fight a drake. I get this every single time. Et voila, enough drakescales for drakescale armour.

lothering, clear soldiers peak and honeleth and then travel between until you pick up starfang. This way you get some fantastic equipment early (starfang, the honeleth hat, a good (early game) dps warrior set). Then orzamar and get key of the city aswell as pick up the lyrium quest and some other random quests, mage tower, flemeth then afterwards whatever I feel like. Probably do the crow quest for the gloves and all the stealing/robbing quests.

Slightly off-topic but this playthrough I used the respec mod to run with a single mage (morrigan ofc, what a babe) and 3 melee sure is fun

I've seen the dragonlings, but since I do the mage tower first on most runs Leliana's lockpicking isn't high enough top pick that lock just then. I've still never once seen a drake though. Only drakes I ever see are in the sacred ashes caves, the dragon in the werewolf lair, the one in the dwarven throne room, and I think there's one more but I've never once seen a drake or full size dragon (werewolf lair) in the circle tower. I play on PC on nightmare if it makes any difference.

Is it possible to p!ss her (Morrigan) off enough that she leaves the group without being told to do so?
