ME3: defeating the reapers

3/4 endings let Reapers live ...

Image IPB
...I know ho you feel Shepard...

Defeat is not the same as killing, not always. The Reapers are "destroyed" in all endings: Control doesn't make them go harvesting, same as Synthesis , even in Refuse, only that the Reapers are defeated on the next cycle.
For example, Leng defeats you in Thessia, and he doesn't kill you. See what I mean?

What do you guys think about the Stargazer? Particularly the one in Refuse. How do you think she looks like?

^ Very much so.

I think that at the end of the day, it would be best to leave them be. However I do think something needs to be done about the newly acquired corpses now covering the Earth...

Hopefully a majority of them fall into the Ocean...which is most likely.

Considering "our numbers will darken the sky of every world", each world will be full of dead Reaper bodies in case of Destroy I suppose. And I think most dead Reapers will be located inside towns they attacked...

...I think that Destroy World is a "post-apocaliptic-world" with poisonous clouds and corruption all around. Galactic Civilization could be easily splitted by hundreds of power-hungry enclaves, which will study dead Reapers to gain an advantage against each other. But "on public" everyone will "rebuild" of course.

No we are doing it from own free will because most of the promises created by Developers end in pile of lies...

Well, slides can't show an entire world or even an entire town. Dead Reapers (warships I mean) can't just vanish. I'm sure a zone around a dead Reaper can't look very nice.

Well, it show London´s conduit part which was rebuilt from scratch and look like piece of eden, so I guess that mess what was there wasn´t so dangerous.

By the way. In case of Destroy not only dead Reapers will lie on the ground, waiting till someone will start to study them. On the Earth dead Geth will accompany dead Reapers, and we already know who wants to study the Geth very much. I can't call this person a "good person".

You missed the point, ofc it doesn´t mean always killing but it means the idea of subduing the enemy on your own terms and not subduing to enemy´s agenda.

Human history is filled with these examples, what happened to Napoleon and France after their defeat ? They had to face a terms... What happened to Germany and Austria after WW1 ? They had to face a terms ...it was always that way.

As said Shepard in refuse: I am going to win this war on my terms...

But we are not the one who dictate terms we are these which must face to terms, so in the end we are defeated and not Catalyst.

Rabid haters of the endings remind me why I hate gamers.

Indeed. They just go on and on about the same thing.. on and on and on.

Both sides go on and on.  One would think there is enough sun for both sides to fit under....

Oh theyre free to do it. We just don't have to like them  or acknowledge them. There is always a balance to be had and whats happening with ME atm is just out of hand. To the extent that this gaming community is basically the embarassment of gaming communities everywhere. Quarian sweat and Asari reproductive organs first aroused peoples suspicions but this ensless desplay of mindless childishness over the ending has hammered the nails well into the coffin.

Also I think that in case of Destroy dead Reapers could be found in large numbers not only planetside. There will be tons of them on each world's orbit...

...And I don't think it will be wise to drop those remains on the planet. Even one two-kilometers-long warship's crash can cause very unpleasent events. And what about hundreds of such crashes?

How do you imagine Control, Seival? Reapers being mindless tools, or slaves? Is Harbinger speaking really Harbinger, or just mouthpiece for Catalyst, and if it is Harbinger, what happens with him after Control? Do you use Reapers to rebuild and destroy them, or are they too useful to just throw them away?

That is what I don't like about synthesis, and to lesser extent control - so many questions to answer, when with destroy it is simply "and after they rebuilt, everything was just like before the war". Average citizen of the galaxy wouldn't even know the Geth are gone.

Well, as I said, I have some thoughts on "The Reapers" and different endings in general (already posted them here, but I think it's good answer to your question, so I'll repost them once more):

...I have some interesting thoughts about The Reapers. I believe they can overcome EVERYTHING even their own death. The more advanced you are technologically, the easier it will be to harvest you (remember Protheans?) If you Control them, they continue existing, but become guided by your own Catalyst with its own thoughts on how to protect lesser races. If you Destroy them, they become a "ground" for Galactic Civilization to grow on, which will only lead to the Reapers' resurrection eventually. If you Synthesise, then they literally start to live inside each living being, balancing differences between organics and synthetics. Either way - The Reapers will continue to be "a solution". And it's up to you, what exactly this solution will be: Guarding, or Dictating, or Balancing, or Harvesting.

...Also some interesting thoughts. The Reapers are not just "advanced warships and hasks". The Reapers are Nano-Tech, which organize the surrounding materials to have specific half-organic-half-synthetic forms. Nano-Tech, which has one collective mind - The Catalyst. Living, thinking being consisting of trillions of microscopical formations, mixed with harvested material, and shaped in forms of Warships and Hasks... I think it's a good basis for a new story in ME Universe :)

...But it's just my opinion of course.

Just would like to point out that those slides don't actually happen immediately. Because it shows a destroyed citadel and the next slide shows a restored one; and all this happened while the crew is paying homage to Shepard? So quick? Its more like what their future direction will be, rather than what is happening.

Two of the endings have you defeat the Reapers. One of them (synthesis) lets you have a compromise with them to secure peace.

Living Reapers doesn't change the fact that they were still defeated.

And remember the reapers in synthesis are synthesized reapers. They are.. sort-of reverse indoctrinated if you may.. They are no longer the genocidal machines they were before (yes yes hurr durr indoctrination), they are freed from the catalyst's control.

How I see it:
Destroy: Reapers obliterated
Control: Reapers seized control of.
Synthesis: Reapers freed and made peace with.
Refusal: Reapers defeated in next cycle.

So all the endings lead to the defeat of the Old Machines.

I legitimately have no problem with the endings.

It seems weird to me when I hear moans of how it's impossible to win. The controlling mind behind the reapers essentially gives you a rundown behind the Citadel/Crucible's capabilities and then surrenders and lets you do whatever you want. That's victory enough for me.

Yes. They have to pay salary to their workers. It's obvious that without workers they can't make good games :)
