I've been playing ME3 again and I'm trying to figure out a good way to take out an Atlas pilot, however everytime I break the glass the Atlas itself blows up. I'm about halfway through the game, playing as an Infiltrator; I don't have a (Black) Widow yet, but I've  been using the Mantis w/ the piercing mod w/ armor piercing ammo. Does using a less powerful sniper rifle like the Viper work better or is there something else?

Just keep shooting the glass, it will break at some point when he's at about half HP. It depends on difficulty aswell tho. I can only talk for Insanity difficulty.

You really have to make sure you're headshotting (not a word, I know) that pilot, and that your teammates aren't attacking the Atlas while you're doing so. The Mantis worked fine for me.

Does it have to be @ the pilot or just the glass in general?

Just the glass, in the middle right into the pilot's head if you feel more comfortable.

I see, it might be the difficulty then, I'm only playing on hardcore right now, so the machine might not be strong enough to take the shots. Thanks for the help

a) use no ammo powers (important!) B) difficulty doesn't really matter c) aim for the pilot's head (or at least his body) d) send away your squadmates (it's best if you fight him all by yourself). e) if it still doesn't work, try it again without weapon mods.

Btw: If you're in an Atlas (Grissom Academy, Cerberus HQ), you can shoot the glass and kill the pilot with 1-2 shots on normal difficulty i think.

I actually broke my first Atlas canopy with the Revenant. Just make sure all your shots hit the glass canopy once the shields go down, and don't use powers or an ammo power that boosts armor damage.

Yeah, just pump a lot of lead into the glass and make sure your squadmates aren't doing any damage to it (just tell them to deal with other targets). I think I actually tried using a Widow at first but it turned out to be too powerful and just used a Revenant instead.

Valiant did it for me. Sabotage is a good skill as it stops the atlas for attacking you and your squadmates will ignore it. That is the big thing. Make sure your squadmates don`t shoot it.

First time for me was at Grissom Academy. I used a sniper rifle (don't remember which) and it didn't take much to shatter the glass. I ignored my squadmates entirely and just focused on the Atlas. I wanted that achievement!

Second time was on the Citadel (Cerberus attack). I used my Shurikan V. That wasn't as easy. I loved blasting away at the Nemesis and the Phantoms in the area. Easy kills while sitting in an Atlas. Why doesn't the Normandy have an Atlas?

Now that I've succeeded multiple times, I look forward to the Atlas, regardless of my weapon just to see if I can shatter the glass and hijack.

/thread. I also loved getting the mailbox slot 10 kills achievement which is a fun exercise. Although I wish I could retry using a shotgun instead of my sniper rifles.

I enjoyed the hijack on the Cerberus HQ. Took out the troops and other Atlas nice and easy

The easiest way I found was - might have been a bug - but during the Grissom Academy when you get to jump into a non-hijacked Atlas then go into the large room to defend the students, eventually another Atlas will turn up. I started pouring fire into it, but no matter how many shots I fired the thing wouldn't blow up. I jumped out of my Atlas and ran over to that one to find the pilot dead *shrug* so I jumped in and got the achievement.

I also highly recommend the Valiant if you have it - anything that has a lower damage output but higher rate of fire will be best.

Shoot the glass with the strongest weapon you have and keep your squaddies off it. You should be able to kill the pilot and still have decent armor on the Atlas.

Anyway, hijacking Atlases is such a gimmick. It hardly does anymore damage than a well-built Shep and like, you die if the thing blows up, right? So I don't find it gives much of a protective benefit either. I usually just kill them normally and move on.

You get a trophy for hijacking and Atlas that's pretty much the only reason to do it.

Hijacking really gets lame at Derperus HQ, where you can round up at least 3 at once and have practically nothing to kill with them b/c everyone's already dead and you can't take them out of the hangar.

Get that everytime. It's a real waste you can't simply suit up your entire team in those if you get all three and then proceed to curbstomp the entire base with hijacked Atlas mechs.

Yeah I finally got it there. Of course all the first wave of guys were dead by the time I broke it open. When the second wave came after blasting down the door w/ the ship, I showed those other Atlas pilots how it's done!

I play Infiltrator, that was the easiest achivement for me to get. When I have a sniper rifle, Guardians are nothing!

I actually went the opposite way when I wanted to get the achievement.  I was having trouble with the thing blowing up when I would shoot the pilot due to penatration and overpowered weapons (like the Black Widow).  So when I finally said enough was enough I brought the Predator on my Infiltrator for Citadel coup... hid Garrus and Liara and just shot the Atlas glass with the Predator until it broke, and then shot the pilot.  Got in and then never worried about hijacking an Atlas ever again. :)

I think I actually remember reading that post. Good for you! lol

The most lol thing about this achievement is that the easiest way to get it is to sneak up on that Engineer near the end of Grissom Academy, kill da foo and simply climb into the pristine, unlocked Atlas parked beside him. Really kills the drama of the whole thing.

Something I really really don't understand though is how my factory fresh Atlas has a broken canopy when I climb into it, yet when I get out again it's perfectly fine. Posted Image

My personal favorite is when I used that atlas to blow a hole in canopy of the one that comes in at the end of the battle. at point blank range.

Locutus: getting into the atlas in grissom does NOT give you the achievement. Only killing the pilot and takign over does.

2 questions. Is every atlas hijack-able? An what's the best way to do it with my adept? I did but the DLC with the typhoon and venom.

Nearly every Atlas in SP.  I am not sure if the one in the Grissom Atrium is (that starts out damaged).

As for best way... non-cover-penetrating hitscan weapons aimed at the cockpit.  Do not kill with powers.

Also best if you hide your squad so they don't inadvertantly blow it up.
