Yes, Dragon Age III will require Origin.
That's not true! That's impossible!

If you registered the games with EA, they should be available for download through Origin under the same email address. This is not restricted to Dragon Age. Mass Effect 2 and Dead Space 1/2 do the same (which is strange because DS2 was purchased through Steam and available to my Origin client for download and also, still, through Steam -- sounds like a conflict to me since it's compatible with the Origin cloud but not the Steam cloud where I purchased it).
Mass Effect 3 requires the Origin client on PC even if you purchased a physical box and disc.
You can be certain that the next Dragon Age will also require the Origin client on PC.

Hopefully other companies don't also start making their own game clients, or people would have to really pick and choose games depending on who made it.

I want to be able to play offline if I so choose especially with a single player game. DA2 allows me that option. Games like Diablo III do not. Call me old school, but I like physical copies of my games without a constant Internet connection.

No, it didn't. Origin was released with Battlefield 3, which came after DA2. You can have DA2 installed and running without needing Origins. The first Bioware game to feature Origin was Mass Effect 3.Arthur Cousland wrote...
Didn't the pc version of DA2 require Origin? It would only make sense for DA3 to do the same.

Well, since the EU court of justice ruled that all digital property is still property, I'm not particularly cranky about it. Steam needs competence to keep a healthy market. And while Green Gaming and Good old Games do so, in a fashion, a more publicized distributor is needed. I just wish it was one that actually cared for the customers.

The main difference is that Steam is handled by a privately owned company, and thus puts the well being of customers first and foremost; whereas Origin is handled by a publicly shared company, and thus puts the profit of the shareholders first and foremost. Therefore, users will prefer the one that caters to them by default.

Steam requires internet connection only during installation. I now, I've played FNV without internet access. Just have Steam start in offline mode.
Alternatively, you can just search the net for patches for your property so that they need no Steam/Origin client to run.

You need Steam to play Skyrim even in offline mode. The only installation that did not require it was 1.00 and 1.1 after that the so-called Ninja patch was installed. So if you update Skyrim which includes downloading Dawnguard the Ninja patch is installed. Also since they keep adding new features in the patches like mounted combat was added in the 1.6 patch you will constantly be trying to patch the game to remove the need for the client.
So no I am not feeling all warm and fuzzy about Steam or Bethesda for that matter.

I simply refused to buy it instead. The same will be true for DA3.
I get to keep my hard earned money, and Bioware gets to keep trying to attract non-rpg-fan gamers to replace players like me who are slowly giving up on them. It keeps the marketing people employed and happy I suppose.
Of course, if they ever actually provide a data collection opt-out for the client, and fix the EULA and TOS to respect my right to privacy and enduring right to play what I have paid for, then I reserve the right to change my mind and buy the game. But not until then.
