I was playing in the Ruins dungeon (that's not a spoiler) for the last 2 days and couldn't but wonder at the great charms game technology has offered us. The huge arches, the light filtering down from above, the claustrophobic quarters, the spiderwebs, the traps... all this while I am in my darkened room.

For me, this is very much why I play games. Nearly nothing else can equal this.

Now, I will agree wholeheartedly that Dragon Age is not the perfect game, and immersion does require a significant effort at suspension of disbelief. Many fantasy settings have better and deeper lore (and many, worse) and might require less of a imaginative jump due to the vividity and veracity of description. But realizing it like Dragon Age? I personally am yet to see one.

That specific dungeon had a significant Undermountain feel to it. Just salivating to think the prospects of modders realizing some other dungeons.

The real question is when you get to the deep roads, how far down does the rabbit hole go. It definitely brings back memories of Black Rock Depths from World of Warcraft in terms of great immersion. Thankfully the developers carefully crafted it so that you can always progress forward despite the odds against you and your party members.

Yet to play that area. Is that another of those great dungeon crawls?
