I've played through the game about 15 times now, and have devised the perfect strategy for this level. This will work for any class/squad combo. I advise bringing a long-ranged armor piercing weapon, even if your a Nova-Guard.

As soon as you enter the courtyard, turn right and run for the high ground to avoid the Atlas' fire.(make sure your squaddies follow, or they'll end up in a never ending death trap.) 

Take out any enemies up there, but try to keep the shield pylon active so you can camp there, utilizing the high ground AND the extra shield recharge. 

After you kill a few enemies, Jack and her students arrive up top. At this time, two guardians will spawn by the shield pylon next to you. Dispatch them quickly.

From here on out, you can just camp by the pylon and pick off the enemies as they fly down from above (be wary of turrets too). Depending on your level and class, this may go quickly or slowly, but you will be relatively safe if you stay in cover and watch your flanks.

After killing all mook soldiers, a squadmate will say you can progress to the other side now. Before you do this, destroy the Atlas. 

When you get to the other side, there will be a stair case directly to your left that you'll want to go up. Dispatch the enemies at the top while staying cover. THE ENGINEERS PLACE MANY, MANY TURRETS HERE. Pretend you are glue and stick to cover. (Yes, even Vanguards)

From here on out, you can just repeat the strategy from the first half of the atrium. Use the high ground and pick off enemies.

I found this mission pretty tough. I ended up going up top, since it made the most sense.

for the second part, I just go in to trigger baddie spawning and go back to cleared area. Hello sniper rifle! The students lift them off the ground and you can have some fun blasting off their heads or incinerating them. Just like the fourth of July!

I found EDI's decoy to be a lifesaver. I specced it for max duration and shields.

If you have sabotage, it really makes the level trival as the turrets kill all the mooks if you are a vanguard and have nova you can charge nova cancel as well
