Really, I have no clue. He was suppose to be in Redcliffe so i have no idea why he is in denerim..

Yeah that was a weird moment. Obviously the real reason he was there was to give you a last chance to change your enchantments or buy some pots, story wise I don't think anything is ever even hinted at.

Sandal was hiding in one of the barrels while that room was filled with darkspawn. When your army invaded Fort Drakon before you arrived, they wholesale slaughtered them, Sandal poked his head out and saw it was safe, and when the soldiers climbed the fort he decided he no longer needed to hide in a barrel anymore, then you came along.

That moment might have been the funniest moment in the whole game for me. I laughed a good solid minute when I asked him what happened and he replies... well we all know what he said.

Ive gotta agree that it was mostly enchantment.



But I have heard others express the opinion that he might be the first dwarven mage which would be interesting. Maybe a DLC expanding on Sandals character should be made?

Sandal has blood splatter all over him in that scene, so it wasn't just a case of him wandering in there after your men had fought their way through. He obviously was doing the killing.

Just be glad he never mentally "snapped" in camp and killed you and your party instead of just happily saying "Enchantment!".

Sandal going postal.........thats a scary thought........

Then again maybe that was the plan all along, there is a soundbite for Sandal that's a pretty wicked insane laugh/giggle that I found.  Hmmm........

Not just one, but TWO ogres, frighteningly enough...

if your coercion is high enough and when you talk to the vedor then you learn that Sandal is not a son of him. he simply found him wandering on his own in the deep roads and they get their stuff from places which were invaded by the darkspawn.
theory crafting about the true identity for Sandal vary from "he's the maker" up to "he's the real archdemon, the dragon was only a pet of his" but he probably would likely comment on such theories by saying 'enchantment!' so he might just be a dwarven version of a tranquil, be it with a strong suggestion for increased magical abilities rather than weakened ones; which is a very strange suggestion because as far as anyone knows there are no dwarven mages but he seems to be the big exception. in any case you find him splattered with blood in a room full of dead darkspawn while he holds no weapon whatsoever and being a tranquil would only protect him from becoming an abomination, not against physical or magical attacks...

he is the first dwarven mage and reincarnation of Dumat. His power awakened just in time and he cast out a spell that instantly kill any darkspawn near him.
