I doubt a big sword wedged in-between a latch to pop it would break the sword. If that was true than banging on metal armor in combat with it would break it worse.

Of course it would. It could easily break off the tip or fracture the blade. As was mentioned, pressure point.

And thanks for totally skipping all my, or anyone elses points, when logic is provided.

" that unnatural things should not be part of a fantasy game" - quoted from Legacy_QuEsT

reading comprehension sir. These two sentences are opposites. One is what I said, one is what the troll said that I said.

People, time to cool it and bring the discussion back on the original topic or it gets a lock (or maybe just some bans for those that don't listen).

I believe the topic at hand was hulkerizing locked chests. I installed that mod, but have been stuck in Torchlight for some reason, has anyone else tried it out?

As I wrote in my earlier post:

"I'm using it now with my 2H warrior and I love it. It's now one my official 'must-have' mods. It feels a lot like lock bashing in NWN: there is a chance to damage the contents if you choose to bash."

Well in game design it comes down to making a game function at a basic level. Even if you could skip a particular obstacle, such as a key chest or door in the game's narrative, is it right that you should?

For the sake of functionality, certain aspects of a game must be either sacrificed during development or not included at all. Often this is because to implement certain ideas wouldn't be worth the time that could be spent on other more important projects to the game's development or providing particular options would just ruin the game in some way.

It's still a valid argument to say that a master of lock-picking shouldn't have too much trouble with most advanced locks, or that a lock could be smashed/frozen and removed - but you have to ask if providing those options takes away from the usefulness of another class. Balance is also key in making those kinds of decisions.

Logic can't be applied to these kinds of situations, because in the end - why do we have limitless normal arrows? Where do we keep all these potions and armor if we have no backpacks with us? How are we traveling across the world in reasonable time without horses? I could go on, but you just can't argue such points in fairness when you're not the one in the developer's shoes.

Personally I think Stealing should have been a Rogue skill with the first level allowing Pickpocketing and the subsequent higher levels allowing money to be pickpocketed along with the item stolen and for an increase in money drops from mobs as long as a Rogue is in the group.

The Open Locks talent should become a skill for all classes and should use Strength  for Warrior classes, Magic for Mages and Cunning for Rogues to determine their chance of success. I would also remove the Disarm Trap effect from the line and add it to the Trap Making line since well it makes no sense for a Master Trap Maker to not know how to disarm one.
