So in ME2, Liara has lost Shepard and lost a friend who sacrficed himself to save her life. How does she handle this? She becomes darker and more violent. She threatens people and vows to kill the Shadow Broker.

Where did this personality go in ME3? This was I think an indication that despite Liaras sweet and naive nature, she has this darker underside to her. Like don't kick the puppy unless you want the puppy to bite your ass off. This is what made her being the Shadow Broker believable. She was forceful when neccessary but moral enough to not do anything crazy like making deals with the Collectors. Then we get to ME3 and it's gone.

She's still the Shadow Broker but her personality reverted back to ME1. She lost the edge she had in ME2. When Thessia is destroyed, she starts crying over it. Am I the only one who thinks it would be better that she gets angry? So angry that she becomes a threat unless Shepard calms her down? Make her scary! I waited the entire game for her to get so pissed off that the Shadow Broker's theme starts playing making the player go "Oh boy...she's gone off the deep end!"

LOL I always enjoyed telling her to basically go screw herself when she asked for hacking help or whatever. Between her and Bailey, there's a lot of desk slamming going on.

Her personality you see on Illium is a coping mechanism for dealing with the past two years. She went through a lot to find Shepard before handing her/his body over to Cerberus. Liara explains this about herself during LotSB.

While in ME3 she is not quite so "dark", the asari that casually executes two Cerberus soldiers is not the same asari we rescued on Therum back in ME1.

Exactly - when dealing with loss this girl tends to get really angry. Benezia not withstanding since she pretty much did it herself. Thessia - she should have been getting the most pisssed off she's ever been as a way to cope instead of crying on her bed and then falling asleep if Shepard doesn't paragon interupt her.

You don’t question the unprecedented turn to dark, but do question the return to precedent—like so many others.

ME2 is a front, a coping mechanism. Survival psychology.

@MAcharlie1 I didnt know she fell asleep if you didn't do the interrupt. I agree it's a coping mechanism.

We all know, except the Liara fanbase, that she has personality disorder. Well that and Mac need to shove her in to the story no matter what.

She can still be situationally ruthless.

For example during her intro in ME3 she executes a couple Cerberus goons and doesn't bat an eyelash.

One time during her introduction in the game. I don't even want to mention that scene since I've read the developer notes on it and Liara is written like a Marysue in it. It's sickening. I can't tell you how many adjectives they threw in those notes that describe her beauty and ability.

Again, it was a coping mechanism. She matured and lost some of her naivete, but what saw was not her. LotSB shows this defensive layer melting away until it is finally gone by the end of the dlc.

And why wasn't this coping mechanism in play during and after Thessia? Why are the squadmates telling her to get angry - she knows how to get angry! Thessia should have been Shepard dying x100.

Liara was OOC during and after Thessia. That scene with her and Shepard made no sense to me. Even more so if she is romanced. Lack of emotion. A lot more could have been done with that.

Liara on Thessia is retarded in every way. Its what makes bringing Javik along so rewarding. Liara's an emotional wreck and Javik is as cool as the other side of the pillow. Like "Pffft... been there done that."

Bringing Liara made no sense whatsoever. It was just forced on us to create useless drama. Did we really need her to go into denial about the Athame doctrine? No.

For me, Liara was an ok character in ME1, however everything after that, is just annoying. I blame a certain individual by taking her as his waifu.

I don’t think you understand what a coping mechanism is.
