I don't have issues with Rio, and use nVidia on PC. But, what everyone describes is a network issue, not a map issue. Well, I suppose it is also possible that the map was downloaded slightly off...maybe delete the DLC and re-download it. Most maps have some issue, it's just a case of seeing it...and then unless you are hosting there's a high chance it wasn't the map's fault.

As I said, when joining a Rio map with a friend I always end up with CTD.

Yesterday I hosted for a change and everything went well. No disconnect, no CTD.

People who have CTD issues: Do you host? Can you solo this map w/o problems?

PC, many problems - I won't play it if a Vanguard/Fury/Shadow/Slayer is in the lobby as I know it won't end well. I love the map, but it's just too buggy.

Worst map ever when using any character with charge or teleport abilities,

Wanna dodge that atlas missile? the game just goes NO and teleports you into the middle of the map, a second or 2 later and you get a missile to the face.

It have become so bad i just quit whenever that map comes up, even when hosting it happens

I play on the PC and any time I have something unusual happen that is memorable, it has been on Rio. I will have to look at it a little closer next time I am there. What details I can give you are anecdotal so there is no reason to list them, however I will test out different builds on Rio to see if I have any of the same problems. Seems like a lot of people don't, but they don't give details on the builds they used when they played on it. I like the map a lot and since it has come out, played on it a lot.

the host does not crash.
the host may still end up with glitches and bugs though.

scenerio 1:
-entire team does not have a vanguard or teleporter on the team, entire game is fine.

scenerio 2:
-host is vanguard, causes everyone else to bug out and/or crash, which causes random people to cycle through the game. which the new players will get the same result as previous buggy and/or crashing as the others.

scenerio 3:
- host is not a vanguard, but player 2 is, host and player 2 will remain in the game while it is buggy for all but crashes players 3 and 4. players 3 and 4 will recycle through randoms contantly due to more bugs and crashing.

conclusion:
- getting this map on the random selector will usually kill the game, because a vanguard could be on the team for several games on different maps and expience zero problems. but when FB RIO comes up everything goes to hell. 
-when everything goes to hell you may not have added these people to your friendslist so you may never see them again.
why this is a problem ? well what if you and those randoms were having a blast and were talking about adding each other before before FB Rio happened, but neither did it yet.
- also there is the whole wasting high level equipment just to have it taken away in an insta fail scenerio due to a bug, not because you/we lost legit, but because of a bug or crash.

I had a lot of bugs in rio, even found myself in the river ...

now i adopt these 2 strategies :
- if i enter a lobby and the host has chosen rio, i quit the lobby immediatly
- if i enter rio through unknown map, or searching put me directcly inside of a running game with rio, i immediatly quit the group.

Alternatively, i also do the same with london when fighting the geth, since we found with my friends that geth rocket trooper could fire through the big wall on the left near the 3 vehicles.

PC player here. I crashed-to-desktop once on Rio, though I'm uncertain if it was Rio that caused it; could've been buggy drivers or some unknown glitch general to ME3.

prime shots go through that spot too :crying:

but at least that bug is not game breaking, i agree needs a fix and is annoying.

For me Rio is a nightmare, especially with kroguard. Always glitching and teleporting. Few time I even looped, constantly teleporting from one plays to enother.

Just an added note...my game sometimes crashes, not often. When it does, there is usually an audio or video strangeness immediately before it. This is the only app/game I've had that ever does this, other than once civ 4 did. More intense games do not seem to do this. All drivers are always updated and the machine will pass any burn-in software test, e.g., memtest86 all night long.

When it DOES crash, only rarely does it go to desktop. Usually it locks up the entire machine so badly it requires the power switch cycled.

In many cases windows will prevent invalid states for hardware if NOT hardware accelerated. In the case of bad data hitting a hardware accelerated device all bets are off, and the app is allowed to do things which can bring the machine down. Bad data could conceivably come in the form of invalid audio or video, such that the maps themselves have the opportunity to do this. On the other hand, many drivers have one flaw or another where otherwise valid data might cause a failure. About all you can do is make sure drivers are up to date, and if a particular map does have issues, make sure to post which video card and probably driver version you are using. Similar for audio, but often people use that built into the motherboard (so also mention motherboard model). If you happen to know which audio setup you use, e.g., high def or ac97, you could mention that too for audio.

just had another Rio game with a slayer vanguard on the team, he didnt use charge until the 6th wave.
when he used it, it immediately crashed the other 2 players out of the game, i was host so i didnt crash. so i just ran down and got insta stomped on purpose since their is no point playing out a glitched game with only 2 people.

he charged alot on the 3 previous games with out one problem until Rio came up on the random selction.

it is not my computer specs, so quit trying to say it might be a driver or device not working correctly. if it was my computer then why can i play Rio just fine without a vanguard on the team?

it is clearly a glitch/bug in the game, im tired of wasting my time and equipment because of a bug.

BW monitors the forums but apparently cannot find time to respond to this one about a legit problem.

There are clearly problems with this game, but please understand that nobody claims drivers are your computer...it's just that they are so complicated to develop that even the slightest weakness in a driver can be found by most games, and an updated driver is the easiest and first thing to think of. With all of the problems in this game, it's blatantly obvious that the people's computers are not at fault...however, trying to figure out what part of being at fault is the issue and improving it can't be done if drivers are out of date. It's the one thing that the player can do to have the slightest chance of improving it.

Probably the second thing is to delete the DLC and re-download it, in hopes that something didn't go right the first time. I saw one person post how until he formatted his hard drive and reinstalled from scratch nothing helped, but that things suddenly worked perfectly after that. Checking and re-checking can be futile and discouraging...with this many obvious game issues the return on redoing things is minimal, but again, you can do that or wait for BW to comment on networking and fix issues of glitches like this...which will happen first?

For those who apparently don't have this problem, it has been said multiple times already that certain circumstances have to be met to reproduce this crash. It's not a network or video driver issue! Those who think otherwise are trying to comment on things they don't understand.

EDIT: Maybe OP needs to describe it better I am seeing a lot of confusion in this thread.<_<

FYI, this is not directed to Caratinoid, but it is about the comments in general.

Just to elaborate, no, it is not directly any kind of network or video issue, but most likely is made indirectly worse. For example, hardware accelerated graphics are not protected against bringing the machine down the way non-accelerated graphics are. Once you give control to the app instead of the o/s, the kernel no longer acts as any kind of gate keeper. Bad maps produce graphics, and quite possibly graphics which are in some way incorrect can cause failures to a greater extent on performance games. So, if any part of graphics in a map is incorrect, whether it be from a bad map or one corrupted during download or some circumstance which requires a particular player class or location on the map, you get a failure. Updated drivers are always the first thing anyone should check just because of so many special cases where combinations of valid graphics could bring the machine down.

So, about the game and networking...there have been many people who seem to have had downloads corrupted because of networking...not hardware, but instead the software in the game. A lot of people have reported failures on particular maps or DLC, and upon erasing and redownloading that DLC, things change, improve, or otherwise appear fixed. Nothing within multiplayer uses TCP, and the current UDP implementation has led to many issues, so...trouble with a map is quite possibly helped by deleting DLC and downloading it again. Not every part of every map, every texture, or every object are accessed by everyone, so it just depends what went bad as to what circumstances led to the failure. If it is embedded within a particular map, and not related to other circumstances, I'd expect there would be an exact way to trigger it 100% of the time, every time. You can go to EA help though, and wait for them to fix it...your choice. Or you can at least attempt to try a few things.

wierd. i'm an xbox player and i havent played it since it completely froze my new xbox 3 games in a row. I just go ahead and quit or exit the lobby now

Just had another CTD after landing in Rio during a search. It dropped me in at Wave 3 and crashed at Wave 8. I was playing AA and there was a DA there and someone was doing slash but I don't think it was a Vanguard. Maybe a Vanguard left and that's why we got dropped into it?

Don't know what's causing it but really hope they are working on this issue. PC user and this in addition to all the other times this has happened.....only on Rio.

i tried to clean up and fix the main post, hopefully it is less confusing now.
i was pretty frustrated when i 1st made this thread and did not have the delivery well thought out.

may not be correctly delivered yet, but at least a step closer... i hope :blush:
