From what we know about the Joining and the effect that the taint has on Grey Wardens, we know that Grey Wardens aren't completely immune to the taint.  All it does is allow them to effectively kill darkspawn and in extension kill the Archdemon to end a Blight.  We also know that once the taint starts to have it's toll on a Warden, they hear a "Calling" and go to the Deep Roads to die taking as many darkspawn with them as possible.

What if a warden didn't do the latter?

Is it possible for a warden to actually be turned to the side of the darkspawn and then appear as some sort of General under the Archdemon's direct control sent to kill other Grey Wardens?  Why not? The taint is already advancing to a level that they're being turned into ghouls if they haven't been killed already.  In this state, ghouls are already sceptible to obeying and working for the darkspawn.

Sure, most ghouls die within months of being turned, but what about the Broodmothers?  They're specialized ghouls created to expand and diversify the ranks of the darkspawn by adding different variations to their forces.  Isn't it possible for a Called Grey Warden to either be turned or to willingly join the darkspawn, undergo a ritual that strengthens their taint and then keep them as officers and generals for future blights?

In a way, this has already been done.  Former Grey Warden Commanders Bregan and Geneviere were manipulated by the Architect amidst their Calling and used as his pawns during the events of Dragon Age: The Calling.  After that, Utha joined the Architect and was at his side as a fully-armed and able body guard during the events of Dragon Age: Awakening twenty years later.

Any thoughts?  Would this be nightmarish to comprehend or too stupid to take seriously?

While Bregan, Geneviere and Utha all joined the Architect, they did it out of free will. Out of free will, they also had the opportunity to betray the Architect even though he had greatly advanced the taint in them. They were effectively ghouls at the end, having sped through the process that might have killed them had it been slowly drawn out.

DA2's Legacy DLC showed that Grey Wardens could be manipulated by the taint in their blood.

So, yes, Grey Wardens can willingly join the darkspawn (whether or not the darkspawn would accept them is another matter) and possibly be manipulated into helping them. Forcibly turned? In body, but I'm thinking not in spirit. In all the cases above, the Grey Wardens still managed to retain aspects of humanity and conscious will. They were able to change their minds, if they wanted to.

The disadvantage of an archdemon using a Grey Warden would be that the Warden is capable of betrayal, and possibly retains the ability of killing the archdemon. An unawakened darkspawn has no choice in being loyal to its master.

Not that this would stop Grey Wardens working for the darkspawn while not being directly alongside them, however. ;) If taint corrupts an Old God, I'm guessing a Grey Warden could start a Blight as easily as the Architect...

Legacy showed that a "Called" Grey Warden like Larius was rather susceptible to the call of powerful nearby Darkspawn like Corypheus. Larius also appeared to have more control over himself once Corypheus was killed. I'm not sure how well the Darkspawn could use them, but he could still be a useful ally to Grey Wardens so long as he kept clear of other Darkspawn I suppose.
