I got to Broodmoher boss doing the Orzammar part of the game with about 5 lyrium potions and 5 healing potions... 4 lesser and 1 greater. I just cannot kill her I have tried about 5 times.... the best I do is 25%. I just cant kill her without some more potions. What a pain eh? So what should I do now... go do another part of the game till I have more potions?

Nah the fight isn't that hard. Just let a main tank attack her and cast Force Field on him. Use AoE spells on the Broodmother when she 'summons' her tentacles. Let the rest of your party attack the Broodmother and destroy the Darkspawn and tentacles.

I killed her in ~10 minutes with Wynne, Morrigan, main character (Archer) and Alistair. Nightmare difficulty and no health potions needed (thanks to Wynne and her very useful Group Heal spell).

What's your party composition? The strategy that worked the best for me was to not attack her with melee at all. I had melee take out the tentacles and the two waves of baddies and had them just sit around and soak her spit attacks when there wasn't anything that could be stabbed. All damage to the brood mother was via arrows or mage staff attacks (all mana saved for heals). I had oghren, allistar, wynne, and my cunning dw rogue. On nightmare I think I used less potions than you mentioned. I've heard that there is a spot you can stand where the tentacles don't get you and you can just ping her with arrows but I've never had trouble and had to result to any cheese tactics.

If you don't have a rogue and a mage or two rogues you might be in trouble.

This battle for me was long but not hard - it's more about keeping the tentacles down and any darkspawn adds and just slowly working away on the Mother with ranged attacks, as others have said. Takes a while but you shouldn't lose anyone as her only massive attacks are close range.

Stand on the "rocks" by the entrance and use spells and missile weapons to take her out. The tentacles can't hit you. She doesn't move so you can nicely hammer her over and over with some mix of inferno, blizzard and tempest. When her minions come out have one party member take them out while the other keep hitting the mother.

I did the dwarf part first in this game.. is thats why its hard for me or no. I think I will try to use the force field and taunt and just ignore the tentacles see if I can kill her. I can get as far as the 25% on broodmother and tentacles but I dont have enough health to finish it. Yeah my tanks are killing the darkspawn and what not but they are taking damage and I dont have enough healing to finish the whole fight.

The boss encounters scale based on the order you did them in, so Broodmother would actually be hardest if you did Deep Roads last - but you'd also be better equipped with CC and AOE. I did actually kill the tentacles, but I mostly kept Broodmother CC'd the entire time that I was killing other stuff. I used Paralysis Explosion so that both she and all her tentacles were frozen then my melee would take out tentacles while ranged hit her. You can also forcefield her directly to stop her from doing any of her aoe attacks.

I killed her finally... by ignoring the tentacles back by that rock. And forcefield.. wow I never thought of using it on an enemy or that you could.. good idea.

Thanks for the tips guys... sometimes u are just so in to what you were doing before that  you fail to see obvious new ways.

Yeah, I actually often have my mages chain force field (if you have two of them) a red boss until all the adds are dead. I've never seen it resisted, I'm assuming because it's not technically hostile magic.

Isn't that what it was designed for?  And using it on a friendly is more "creative?"  (And cheap) =)

when I first took force field, I was a bit skeptical. why stop a person from moving? I supposed that it would make a very good archer type person.

sooo... i cast force field on leliana, and I was ready to make her start arrow of slaying... NOPE! totally frozen.

so then I thought... CC!

*pokes a boss with force field* now there's an effective way to cut the difficulty in half...

and then later, when the high dragon grabbed my tank... I thought "damage immunity!" and left him suspended in mid air.

strange things, eh?

though mostly I prefer indomitable when it comes to dragons... or cheezy "get them stuck in the wall" tactics when you're desperate.

I have played other parts of the game and it seems like for the dwarf scenarios every other room is a boss fight... its crazy.

I killed her via Walking Bomb and Tempest ticks, actively we just concentrated on tentacles and darkspawn.

Take a healer and 2 ranged DPS and a tank.
Hit H to make everyone stand still instead of running about.
Stand the tank right on her toes and position everyone else on the rocky area where you entered, where the tentacles can't reach you.
Burn her down with focused ranged dps
Mop up :D

If you have a pure melee dps party, you are in the poo O.o

The only really hard boss for me was Jarvia for some reason. All others including archdemon were more than doable. Maybe I had a bad day but I had to reload 5 times with that dwarf bish.

borelocin,

Remember that ALL characters can equip two sets of weapons. It really pays off to give your melee characters a ranged weapon as your second weapon.
