I didnt mean to say that colored people dont fit to rule or anything. I hate every form of racism, and I think judging someone by his skin color is among the most stupid things you could ever do.
It´s just, that I see Ferelden pretty much like a medieval european country, and I cant remember that any european country has ever been ruled by a colored person (correct me plz if I´m wrong).

Fereldans are inspired by British Celts, Orlais being the French (and thus also the Normans who conquered the barbarian England, although England was technically already conquered.) Information from the game seems to suggest that the Chasind (and another seemingly more barbaric tribe) are the southern-most people of Thedas, and that below them is only a southern ice cap. There is nothing what so ever that suggests that there is anything even faintly related to black people or sub-saharan Africa in Thedas, and the Quenari are inspired by Arabs, Middle-Easterners, Moors or whatever you want to call them, who are also far from being "black."
Considering how Middle Easterners and Muslims in general have treated "black" people, I find it hilarious how black people seem to gravitate towards such traditions (hint: the Nation of Islam etc.) Search for "black eunuch" or similar, quite a different treatment for blacks compared to whites back when. This might've seen overly aggressive; I'm just lashing out a little against those who seem to read to much into Arab-inspired fantasy.
Fereldan seems more Anglo-Saxon to me. In pre-Norman invasion Britain the Celts were dominant in Wales and were contesting Ireland and Scotland with Norway/Denmark.

Yes, because Muslims were the only ones who treated blacks badly, right?

It´s political correctness that even a colored person can become King / queen.
No it's not. Have you heard of a black King of England? There's an Emperor of Japan, China and Korea who are asians, and the King of England/France/Italy are white. NOHOHOBODY in the past would ever choose someone who isn't their color to be their King.
In fact, see if anyone in Africa wants a 'white-man' to be King.

Lol, read my other post. I told there that I believe they put the possibility for a colored to be king in out of political correctness because it is, just as you state, rather unrealistic. But to say a colored can never rule a land without colored majority could easily be read as racist. (Besides, Obama shows that it´s not even true anymore, though he is "only" president and not king.)

While "blacks" were enslaved by practically anyone who can get their hands on them, the scale that Europeans enslaved them was more than what the Arabs did. Deporting them into unknown lands, tearing the whole continent apart and artificially creating states just to feed colonial interests, beats what the Arabs did.
Furthermore, there were many blacks who were highly respected amongst Arabs and Muslims. Bilal was the first Muslim caller for prayer, a companion of the Prophet and he was black. Al Jahiz was an ethiopian scientist, philosopher and zoologist who lived in the Islamic Caliphate. Ziryab, the black bird his name means, was the most famous music composer and fashion designer in Muslim Spain. You didn't see things like that in Europe.
Europe was motivated by pure racial supremacy and "the burden of the great white man". Arabs enslaved just for money, they didn't have racist tendencies and if they did, they would be contradicting their religion.

Although the Chasind are never described as being black or dark-skinned in game as far as I can remember, most of the Chasind NPCs you meet in game are dark-skinned. In fact all of them except for one are dark-skinned. From that I think it is safe to assume that the Chasind are generally a dark-skinned people, though the culture doesn't seem to based on any sub-Saharan African or Middle-Eastern cultures.
Two thieves (framed?) in Lothering.
Crazy Chasind in Lothing.
Morrigan.
Female Chasind at the Pearl.
Is there a male Chasind at the Pearl? Any others I'm missing? These are all easy to acquire screenshots of for comparison.
Yeah, it's not like the clergy of the religion of peace would promote violence or anything. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/whistling.png[/smilie]KnightofPhoenix wrote...

Nice try, but I was talking about racism, not violence.
