Officially?

You assume Shepard survived. That could have just been a final breath before he/she died.

You're not getting any other answer.

Except for the one where Jessica Merizan said that yes Shepard can be alive at the end...

My Shep survived the rubble thanks to several keepers softening the impact after he was blown clear of the catalyst chamber. He then got picked up by joker and flown to Omega, where he is getting spit roasted by Kaidan and Cortez as we speak.

How is Shepard still alive under that rubble? If he fell back to London how would he survive falling through Earth's atmosphere? So is he still alive on the Citadel? If so, why does the rubble look like concrete from Earth? This was my only unanswered question even before the EC.

Shepard is not the man (or woman) who fell to earth. (sorry for the Bowie reference) Shepard is in a pile of rubble on the Citadel. As Weekes explained it, the Citadel has Kinetic Barriers that keep the oxygen from escaping, much like when those huge gaping holes were blasted in the Normandy in ME2 no one got sucked out into space and the air stayed inside. I know it looks like concrete on earth, but it's the Citadel. We'll pull the artistic laziness card here.

It's just that Hepler was trolling at SDCC and CP has trolled the "it could have been his last breath" thing here too. They were trolling. The file name is "ShepardAlive" on the disk. Go by that. It's more official than these two.

He's on the Citadel.

There was rubble on the Citadel in the EC Destroy slides.

He survived because it only kills synthetic life.

I'd like to see this more in Leviathan dlc. Shepard gets saved at the last minute by leviathan and gets teleported back to earth the way like reaper troops fall from the sky. I know it sounds stupid, but im just thinking out loud here.Image IPB

Shepard hasn't knocked out nearly enough reporters yet to die yet.  Rage is a hell of an anesthetic.

It's an easter egg. The other side of the coin to ME2's failShep that dies on the Suicide Mission

It's there purely so we can headcanon a live Shepard since Bioware has no intention of actually letting it happen

The only way I could possibly explain it is that the Citadel exploded an hour or two after the Crucible was actually fired. And that gave Shepard time to go down the elevator (if that even somehow works) and get to one of the "wings" that end up for some reason being the only damaged part of the Citadel in the slides.
I still have no idea why they didn't retcon the Citadel exploding in the center. They show it, then in the next slide, only the ends are torn up, wtf.

Duh.... if they had the center of the Citadel blow up then how would they get ME4: Andromeda Strain... I've said too much.

Shepard has survived a lot of explosions. It stands to reason he'd survive that one.

I'm pretty sure it's been explained that the Citadel erects kinetic barriers around damaged section to maintain life support.

But how does he survive the red Beam of death, unless his implants somehow now became less important for his survival or the beam didn't affect him since he was at the eye of the hurricane, really make you wonder if the starbrat had actually told you what each choice actually was.

I can't tell if it's a cliffhanger or not. I really don't know what Bioware wanted it to be. Obviously it was meant to be the end of Shepard, but it ended so abruptly.

Pretty much speculation from everyone is what they wanted, Shep takes a breath headcannon the rest:whistle:

Except Sheps fate is very clear in the other endings.  Why F with those who chose this particular ending?

Shepard is standing in the middle of a mass relay pointed at London.

He shoots something in order to cause a massive wave of energy to go 'splody through the relay network and exterminate synthetic life throughout the galaxy, but he inadvertantly gets caught in that same energy wave and is pulled through the mass relay where he appears all singed and broken from the explosion he was foolishly walking into.

When all is said and done, he wakes up under some rubble, hungry for a kebab.

This.

It'd take a lot more explosions and long drops to dent Shep's plot armor, never mind penetrating it. Not even Harbinger could kill Shepard when it had the chance.

He/she was only partly synthetic, and I don't know but I don't think it was ever explained if major organs were replaced by implants. Therefore he'she could have survived without them.

Well, EDI states that Shep's brain function are still fully organic. Other organs are cloned from Shep's DNA I believe(standard practice in the Mass Effect universe irc). I think most implants are related to his/her bone structure or become redundant as his/her body recovers. Also there is a good chance the Catalyst is liying somewhat about destroy to make what it sees as the least desirable option less appealing to Shep.
