I've been stuck on the Tuchanka Bomb mission on Insanity for a while now.

The part i'm stuck on is at the end where you've got to protect the guy that is disarming the bomb.

I can get through the enemy waves just fine but the Atlas is a pain. It always manages to kill the guy before I can take down the Atlas.

I'm playing as a Reave-Sentinel because biotics are handy - are there any weapons or squadmates or just general techniques that will help take down the Atlas before it starts attacking the NPC? (I'll be getting the new weapons pack next time I log on so if any of those will be handy for this, i'll have them)

Also - does anybody know if there are any major penalties to skipping this mission? As I understand it's a timed one and must be done before another mission so if someone were to skip this, would they lose too many assets or collectibles to make it worth it?

there should be a missile launcher on the right side of the map

How effective is that on Insanity? I'll load the game up soon and have a look for it.

The Hydra Missile Launcher is very effective on Insanity. It should take out all of its shields and at least most of its armor, if not even kill it outright.

Skipping the mission will cause the bomb to off eventually. I have read that if Eve is alive, the bomb will kill her.

I had 2 squaddies using squad warp ammo on particle rifles and they tore through everything at that point along with my adept (no need for the missile).
I had much more trouble at the point where you have to avoid all the brutes when you try to call Kalros!

Are your weapons upgraded enough? This mission is really doable with just level V weapons and minimal tech/biotic combos... You basically just nail the Cerberus troops as they're jumping off their shuttle with a combo, then shoot while they're still in their landing animation. There should be a good window of time to clear them before each wave. Then when the Atlas comes, you could missile it if you want, but it shouldn't take much to kill it with BEs, given that you're a Sentinel. Just don't let the Cerberus troops get spread out or the Atlas get any support.

The first time I did the whole sequence with an Avenger V, Incendiary Ammo and next to no power combos, so you should be able to pull things off with some speedier play.

Reave-Sentinel should work just fine; The nice thing about Reave is that its armor effect stacks with your Tech Armor, so you shouldn't be too worried about taking hits.  I'd recommend Liara or Javik plus Garrus.  Liara brings squad warp ammo (which pairs nicely with Reave's DOT effect) and warp, which is handy for biotic explosions. Reave-Liara's Warp and Reave-your own Throw should be enough to take them down. Javik brings Dark Channel, and paired with your Throw, makes a nice BE that hops to other enemies. His weapon selection is also better than Liara's; most of the SMGs are pretty crappy.  Garrus has additional dialogue during the mission, his sniper rifle is great for dishing out big damage to big targets, and he brings more overload, which is great for anti-shield and crowd control duties.

Also, take a light but relatively hard-hitting gun; I personally like the Vindicator. Sentinel's biggest problem is that Tech Armor slows cooldowns pretty badly, so you don't want your guns slowing you down any more than they have to.

As you said, there are War Asset consequences if this mission is not completed before Priority Tuchanka (or maybe Priority: The Citadel-Cerberus raid, not totally clear on the timing). If not done, Cerberus sets off the bomb and virtually wipes out the Krogan clans war asset.

I just did it last night as a non-imported vanguard with Javik and Garris. I have energy drain. No BEs because I wasn't keen on charging an Atlas. A could of energy drains to get the Atlas's attention and cleaned up the far more dangerous, grenade throwing troopers and finished off the Atlas.

Combinations and resistance-specific attacks works wonders. Get Tech Bursts or Biotic Explosions going (according to your class and your squad) and then use anti-shield/barrier abilities until you hit the armor stage, then work on the armor.

It is not a really hard mission, it just requires you to keep your head calm.

Also, yes, Tuchanka: Bomb is one of 4 missions you do not want to wait with (and will have punishments for not doing). The others are Grissom Academy, Rannoch: Admiral Koris and Rannoch: Geth Fighters.

Actually, there's two more - Cerberus Scientists on Gellix and Ardat Yakshi Temple on Lessus. Both, when done, offer boatloads of guns, armour, cash and war assets. Both visit some serious pain on your war asset score if not done.

I just played this mission with my crappy Cryo Viper/Full Weapon load Soldier.

I took Garrus and Liara (my "typical" squad). Liara is nice for putting a singularity in or under the shuttles as they are trying to drop troops. Be efficient and use combos and aimed fire (easier to pull off on PC, where you can efficiently use Liara to detonate her own explosions).

There is indeed a Hydra near the pillars to the "right" of where the Atlas drops in. It should drop the shields and damage the armor. Just take cover and kill the Atlas with weapon fire, powers/debuffs. In this case I did not have Proxi on Garrus yet, so I just went Overload then Liara's Warp (which sets off a tech burst, and debuffs the armor with Expose) and then hit Adrenaline Rush and shot at it.

I just finished this mission, the missile launcher only dropped the atlas shields for me. I had James (with squad incendiary ammo) and Garrus with me and took out the atlas pretty fast, although I am playing engineer so my sentry turret racks up a lot of damage quickly.

Here is my strategy:

go to the 2nd "step" down, so you can see both landing areas over the wall. Set one squadmate at either side of the wall at the bottom of the steps.

Use powers / longer ranged weapons to hit the troops as they unload and approach. as they get to the side of the wall, you and your squadmate will squash them. They don't come from both sides at once unless you don't kill them fast enough, so you should be ok.

When the atlas arrives, KILL THE REMAINING TROOPS FIRST. Then move up, use the wall as cover, and tell your squadmates to attack. use grenades / powers at will. If you have anyone with tech powers (Overload, Sabotage, Energy Drain), use them. If needed, run and grab the hydra on the right.

I've heard a few people say this and I've always wondered whether you're hitting with all the missiles? I mean, every time I've done Insanity runs on this mission its always blasted the shields and a few blocks of armour off it.

^Yeah, the missiles should do a whole lot of damage.

If you have Garrus, then his prox. mine is really good for triggering electrical tech bursts - which murder Atlas shields very fast. The Prox.Mine can also increase the Atlas' vulnerability by 25%, whether it's on armor or shields.

BEs are better vs armor, but very strong in general, so you really should be able to off the Atlas very quickly as a Sentinel. I guess if you could aggro enough to get the thing to shoot at you, then it'd be a good thing as well.

This is a good point.  Since the Hydra fires multiple small missiles it will depend on if all of them hit the Atlas or if some track random troopers that may be standing around.

I ran into this sort of problem when I was doing the approach to the temple of Athame and trying to recreate something I had done before (blasting the Marauders and Ravagers so I could easily kill the Harvesters).

^Well, the Hydra has targeting reticules IIRC, so you know what's going where... And with all the mob waves cleared, your missiles should all be headed to the Atlas.

Still, even given a 1st PT, the OP's Shep should be decently levelled for BEs... IDK why the Atlas is such an issue... Worse come to worse, OP can just buy the Firefight DLC and Reegar the thing.

My favourite squad was EDI and Liara. Singularity and double throw all the mooks and have EDI and Shepard stripping shields with overload. When there's an Atlas about prioritise the troops around it so that Biotic Explosions will hit the mech and while edi should also be stripping the shield and incinerating the armor. Liara and Shepard can easily detonate more BEs on the Atlas quite quickly with warp and throw. If you want to speed it up more, give EDI a scorpion and have her target the Atlas with it when it's on armour. :P Since her cooldown's are quite large, she'll have time to shoot. I know I got through without much trouble on Insanity and I didn't even need the Hydra.

Use the missile launcher and you'll be fine. If you wait untill after the Coup, the VS has unique dialogue as well. However, you do need to do the mission immediately after the Coup or the bomb will go off after another mission.

Just finished this mission on insanity with a vanguard and it was easy. Use the new anti synthetic AR and watch its shields get shredded. It is an amazing gun against shields. Then switch to any gun with cryo or flame ammo for ammo. Or do what I did, charge BE and nova BE til it's dead.
