Hey
I've never given this expansion the attention it deserves, but now I'm set on completing my first playthrough. My current levels are thief 10 / weapon master 10 / Fighter 4. NPCs are Safiya, Gann, & Kaelyn. Everything's great, Safiya's just hit level 24 so can finally craft pristine essences, and ... the penny's just dropped about Devour spirits.
I beat Okku, and then cleaned out as much of the old temple as I could, but left the lich group after it used me for ear-cleaners. To be clear, I devoured loads of spirits in the temple. I then jumped in the boat and headed to the lake of tears, and Ashenwood.
This is probably all obvious to you, and I expect I'm due a reload, I just want to know how bad exactly this is? I've beaten the giants, and got the components to summon the god for the blight. I went and talked to the shape of fire, and now I'm due to go to Immil vale to advance both those quests, in order to finally meet the wood man.
I haven't used either suppress or devour since sleeping, mainly because there are no hostile spirits in this area. My spirit meter is down to 7, and my best idea is to have Gann summon an elemental, suppress that, and travel to Immil. If that still doesn't work, I suppose I could cheat and reset the counter (rs_ka_se_init), but that's way broken.
Oh wait, D'oh, let me try satiate. OK never mind, I'm probably good.

If you do decide to use aids to work around the Spirit Eater points there are severals solutions available for download. My own contributions are a fix to prevent the loss of Spirit Eater points when idle and a Spirit Eater recharger that restores points.

There are indeed tons of spirits there, but I'm playing chaotic good and they're not hostile. Unless there are some in the Predator Den, saw that on a walkthrough area map but haven't been there yet.
Anyway I suppressed an elemental, getting me from 2 to 9, changed the spell picks to summon more elementals, and travelled back to the garrison (back to 2), refreshing the spell books. I summoned 4 elementals, suppressed again, and am now off to Immil, with a positively huge 11.

The 'Provoke Spirits' feat turns nearby spirits hostile, making them valid targets for devouring. It's not the sort of thing that good characters would probably be doing though.
Dwarves can get a 'Distill Spirits' feat, but it has nothing to with spirit-eating (more of a spirit-drinking thing really).

I understand your feeling, i am as well as a Choatic good who never attack not hostile spirit.
And that do makes the game much harder.
Whenever I am missing the road, my life is in dangerous.
That makes me actually feel the pressure from being "100% good"
So I tried to rush through the story till I get eternal peace, and my meter was at 30% by then.
I also devoured Mykul the damn XXXX(not eternal peace, I actually devoured him or let him devour myself from inside?)
So i am glad I made it, I believe you will as well.
Anyway, remember there are two kind people according the old tales, the ones against the curse and the ones embrace the shadow.
I think as a Choatic Good, it is really a choice that challenge our way.
I never think it would be a problem to evil and lawful people.

The next patch to the MotB Makeover will include a modification that allows the Spirit Eater to consume Spirit Essences to regain spirit points. The Spirit Essences are in the game for crafting purposes, but not everyone crafts and this gives them another purpose and a reasonable way to control the curse at a cost.
I will also be releasing this as a standalone mod for those who do not own SoZ or use the MotB Makeover (although why anyone who owns SoZ would play MotB without using the Makeover is a mystery to me.)

I'm in sunken city and my soul point is dangerously low: around 15
Where can I find easy souls to eat in the sunken city maze?
The only soul I've ever eaten belonged to a rat!
Can I eat the soul of Dwarves and Humans?

It's been a while but I seem to remember that there are a couple of flame elementals, and some spirit panthers that are edible. Don't know if I'm remembering correctly but I think you can also eat those wandering air elementals.
