On my second playthrough of DAO, I used the Bella Crystal Glitch. I don't normally use exploits in a game, but I figured: 1. It's my second playthrough, and I want to see how powerful a party I can build, and 2. It's not a multi-player game, so it's not hurting anything.

Anyway, using this glitch loads up the vendor you're selling the crystals to (the Redcliffe blacksmith, in my case) to a point where it corrupts any saved games, rendering the game unplayable. In different forums, I've read hundreds upon hundreds of people reporting this problem, even many who didn't use the crystal exploit (or any others). No one who's reporting the problem are saying anything about responses from EA, aside from the canned auto-replies or suggestions to delete all saved games and start over, which is not really a feasible option, if you have 50+ hours on a character. Is EA/Bioware working on this bug? Can we expect a patch soon?

And to any flamers, please save the "That's what you get for cheating" responses. I played through first without using this, and this next playthrough is just to see how powerful a character I can build with unlimited cash. Image IPB Also, this can be a problem for ppl that don't exploit at all, if they tend to use the same vendor to sell all of their loot to or tend to load up the Soldier's Peak chest.  If there is a limit to how much a vendor can hold, then that limit needs to be set where you can't sell any more to that vendor, not corrupt the game.

I miss when games could not go on shelves with a single game breaking bug that could not be avoided. Now developers are so lazy they will Just rush it out for a quick dollar.

Its less laziness and more the increased complexity of games these days.

M'hm, do not say "MY OLD N64 never had bugged games"

Us gamers demand more and more, that results in more coding, complex inputs and what else is happening during the game devolepment.

But yet, DA;O was rushed if you ask me, too many game breaking bugs that could have been ironed out if they tested it properly and waited more. But you know EA, greedy sonofamorons.

I seriously hope they fix this. I haven't personally ran into this problem .. yet. I've seen a lot of topics about this same thing and like the OP said some of them haven't used glitches or anything, the file just gets corrupted for no apparent reason.

Has anyone tried making potent potions and selling them?

because that's near unlimited cash, takes a little time and doesn't crash the game on 360, or pc

i have not tested this yet on ps3 but i will soon.

Bella Crystal Glitch? What glitch is that? I have used the duping glitch just fine to get tons of tomes and max out ingredients and gold of course but never had a single problem with that. But what the hell is the Bella Crystal Glitch? Never heard of that and why is it called something stupid instead of what it does?

Google finds nothing except this thread when the exact quote "Bella Crystal Glitch" is entered so yeah it sound to me like he just made it up. Plust the name tells me nothing about the glitch......WTF is a "Bella Crystal"? Another search without the quotation marks gets me online diamond shops. It looks like you don't even know what the OP is talking about.....I think he just made something up to see how many fools play along.

The glitch invovles the Shale DLC and after certain events that occur in Redcliff. i will not go into detail because some would be considered spoilers.

Well, there is one guy that tried this stuff out and overloaded his merchant without trouble when he disable the PROFILE FEEDBACK and UPLOAD CHARACTER INFORMATION options. When EA does get the information, it leads to a corrupt save. When you play it 'offline' however, EA cannot detect you overloaded merchants and hench, you play safely. I forgot where this thread was, but go ahead and try, I am doing it already.

Hi all,

Happened to me for no reason in Denerim. Seems like all of my saves from this location are now broken, as in, when I try to load them, the game insta-crashes to desktop. I am royally disappointed with Bioware for this. I'm sure they had deadlines and all, but it's quite sad that us end users have to play (or rather try to) games that are unfinished. What a pain.

Not true.  There are people who've never heard of this cheat that still experienced corrupt saves.

I've just run into the same problem in Redcliff on my PC version. I've used no glitches or cheats but it still happened.

Anyway, I found that if I loaded a previous savegame (mine was in the circle mage tower) and then load my latest savegame from there it worked! Don't know if this will help anyone but thought I chuck it in here!

Havent glitched at all - didn't have any of these problems until I obtained the DA:J earned content. Once that was downloaded this crap started happening everytime I play. This is getting pathetic, will definately not purchase any more DLC for this game. Sick of losing hours of playtime each time I try to play.

Im starting to wonder if they could care less about anything but money now. Because there is no patch and no news and they have Useless tech support.

Your problem may actually be an extension of the original cause of the save corruption.  From the evidence so far, the cause is the amount of inventory, whether on the PC, any given merchant, their storage chest, or whatever.  The limit seems to be 148 items per storage place (place being  any given inventory page, merchant, chest).  If this limit is reached or crossed, corruption occurs.  You may have inadvertantly reached that limit because of the DLC added to your character's inventory.

The reason for people percieving ALL of their saves becoming corrupted seems to be related to the way the game "refreshes" a given save when it is reloaded.  Other Xbox games from Bioware have also used this same technique, so it's no surprise that their save feature for DA:O on the 360 behaves in this fashion.

Mine just corrupted on me on my first ever playthrough  and the last save that works was 24 hours before where I am in the game!!!

It is pretty outragous that there hasn't been a patch to address this issue especially if it is as many peple are saying to do with selling to many items to a store.

24 hours of continuous gameplay ? As in last valid save is at 43h of play and the last corrupted save is at 67hours ? Or this is the difference of time between the date of the last valid save and the date you stopped playing or tried to reload? Many people complain about this : you say 24 h, others lost 40h or 20h , i've only lost 5 hours .When your game starts making a corrupt save , it will make it all the way 'till the 2012 and after :)) .It goes in a continuous row : no valid saves in between corrupt ones.If you don't reload or verify your saves regularly , this thing goes on and on without even noticing. Please, trust me , I've lost many days trying to figure out what was corrupting my saves.

Vailidating saves may be a PITA, but it is the best way to verify whether the game is corrupted or not, and thus minimizes loooooong back tracking. A little effort now, saves a LOT of effort later.

The person you are referring to also mentioned 148 items per slot.  This number isn't a mistake.  It was derived from experimentation and just so happens to be the same limit placed on Mass Effect (though that game had a nice built in feature for dealing with too much inventory).
