That is the most eggregious gaming misconception I have come to know up to now.

I had once tested how much a decent gaming PC, everything included would cost. *snip*

I don't get how people still believe that PCs are a thing only meant for rich people ... if you can afford a console, you can afford a PC.

problem is YOU know this
all the non-caringaboutsuchthings justwanttomakemychildhappy parents dont :)
got my pc for around 800€ 5 years ago
did upgrade it a view weeks ago for around 300€
maybe not necessary but i wanna play crysis 3 without have to do it again :D

I firmly believe PC gaming is more expensive.  Just reality.  I have custom built many gaming PCs over the years and owned most consoles.  The cost of maintaining a PC is higher because of peripherals and component upgrades.  Plus the fact that you usually purchase a dedicated monitor with it.  My graphics card, alone, is more than my PS3 brand new.

It's more expensive. It's not as much more expensive as people make out.  I went through a period of relative poverty and was still able to maintain a gaming pc.  But then, while I'm not super tech savvy myself (though I'm ok, I can upgrade if I need to) I know a lot of very savvy techies.

The key is to buy one cycle behind.  Prices really drop once PC parts aren't bleeding edge.  And always custom build or have custom built your desktop.  In Canada's major cities, at least, there are places that do that and charge remarkably little for the service.

Worst it ever got was that I coulnd't play bleeding edge games with graphics at top end.  But back then I was doing a lot of WOW, and WOW is very forgiving.

As for grateful: yeah.  I have very little tolerance for trash talk, homophobia, etc...  It ruins my experience of a game.  So I'm glad I don't have to deal with it.

Well, in that I disagree to a certain extent as the consoles are built with top of the line components when they are designed.  They use the same basic graphics chipsets (ATI, Nvidia) and the RAM and motherboards are generally the same manufacturers.  Consoles are mid to higher end PCs when they are designed.  Trust me, I am not knocking them at all.  I love my PS3.

But, from a pure cost perspective, a good and future proof gaming PC can run over $1000 if you build it yourself.  My components spec out to be about $1300 US.  My GPU was $350, alone.

And, it is not just the cost of the components that tend to change the entry level for some, it is the maintenance, upgrades, patching, etc.  Most 12 year old kids are not looking at drivers, or Windows patching, worried about system performance, etc.  Usually they are playing on their parent's PC or, god forbid, laptop.

Building/Owning a decent gaming rig has a lot of added cost that kids generally don't have access to.  And you are right, a parent (I am one), is more likely to get them a cheaper console to plug and play instead of worrying about supporting an uber PC.

That can partly explain the disparity in types of people you see online for either platform.  Not saying there are no rude kids on PC or mature adults on the 360, but generally speaking, it is what it is.

You also have other "stuff" you can do with your PC. Like turn it into a media streaming server for your Android phone / tablet for times when you want that extra something in the bathroom.

Just saying.

Or trade in stocks, catch up on news ... whatever. :-P

Yes, because my female friends that play on the XBOX 360 complain about harassment by guys (b**** go make me a sandwich), and I honestly haven't been harassed at all as a female player on PC. Guys either don't say anything at all or have been friendly. I'm not sure why it's a different world, but it is.

yeah all rude pc kids are playing league of legends

and, well, when you buy a ps3 at release you pay around 700€ too without tv and anything (atleast they were that expensive here in germany :) ) and then you still dont have the possibilitys you have on a pc.
dunno what you meant with the patching thing? never had a patch or a driver which i had to pay for and most of the time its pretty much self-explaining (actually i never notice my windows updating^^ sneeky win7 is trolling me with updateshutdowns while playing >.<)

True, but the point of the thread is MP gaming on either platform and why some people feel the PC experience is better for ME3.  I, personally, feel that way.  Others mileage may vary.

I understand that PCs are generally better for gaming. However, I'm super glad I don't have to use Origin, Steam, or if anyone remembers Games for Windows if I want to play online.

I have witnessed this type of harrassment on the 360, before, and was one of the reasons I sold it.  Hopefully she has better experiences or just plays private matches, moving forward.

I don't mind Steam, and Origin has been ok.  THey are pretty much the same although Origin is just unnecessary, in my opinion.  I kind of like not having to worry about disks and game boxes.

On PC, majority of people in random games don't talk, but they do have a mic. You only find out when the say 'thank you' for reviving them, or perhaps throw a warning about the phantom party about to unleash unholy pew pew on everyone's arses

I've always though it was the other way around. With a PC, I can work, play, watch/create movies, etc. It's like all in one package.

While as with consoles you can only play and watch movies and the occasional internet surfing. To me, consoles are more of a luxury item than a PC.

i dare say "All console owners own a PC. Whereas, not all PC owners own a console."

That's just my thoughts anyway. No offense to console players.

and it change depending on where you live. Here on Brazil, the normal price of a PC game is R$99,00 (too lazy to convert it to dollar, sorry), and you always have god, also know as steam, to help you with 75% discounts (with R$99,00, I bought 6 games this summer sale, with any DLCs available). Console games cost R$140,00 to R$200,00, a lot more expensive. You will pay something around R$900,00 for a X-box 360, and R$1200,00 for a PS3 console, you can easily buy a PC with a good videoboard by this price.
In a nation where the basic salary is R$622,00, R$200,00 for a game is something completely unreal. Since piracy still a large problem here, most of the people that buy consoles only do it because they pretend to buy illegal copies of the games, otherwise they wouldn't have consoles.

I raise you Project Reality, Counter Strike, Red Orchestra, Insurgency, DayZ and Garry's mod. You can't just only look at the negative sides of modding. But in reality, that isn't modding. That is cheating.

XBL and Origin are similar in that they are both services that allow you to play online. However, I have never ever had a problem connecting to XBL. I have had connection issues as far as individual game servers are concerned, such as with ME3 and EA servers.

I don't mind Steam so much, but it is frustrating sometimes with some games having to be connected to an online service in order to play even single player modes.

Or how about the Skyrim workshop or all the user created mods for Left 4 Dead?  I probably played more user created campaigns in L4D1/2 than the official Valve ones.

I suppose this further reinforces the idea that threads like this are really kind of pointless. For every XBox player who is angry enough to post a crazy story about something that happened on a forum, there are 10 players who haven't had a bad experience. For every PC player that talks mess about Origin on a forum (last I checked there were two threads on that very topic on the front page) , there's a player like you who has never had any issues.

I will say that I consider you a lucky fellow. Connecting to Battlefield on Origin was a nightmare for me.

Do you really think a mod is a cheat? Then i'm playing Skyrim right now with dozens of cheats. Assuming that custom textures, armors, weapons, clothes, custom sounds for weather effects... etc, are cheats, of course.

Do you know what is a cheat? paying twice for playing online. Yeah, you are being cheated.
