thats why you just run up to them and light melee them!!!!! some people realize they arent helping the team and come back with you LOL.
except the fury, her light melee is incapable of sending a "message"
6/10 people ( totally made up that statistic) respond.

I don't really know about going after points but i prefer to engage the enemy from the flank or from the rear. And that is a tad difficult to do if you are camping.

EDIT: From my experience best results i have seen for camping in the middle have been when one or two players voluntarily go to block the spawns in the EZ end of the mission area. Then the remaining players will get no flankers and can concentrate on one direction only. And almost invariably blame me for not helping them - at which point i usually bugger off to the container zone and watch the hapless idiots at the center getting wasted.

Holding the room is brutal.

But I love doing it. I don't know why. ._.

But there is an ammo crate there too! Why did they put an ammo crate there if you werent supposed to camp it?!?

Also, Hydra starting position / "tower" tastes a lot like the above: open from 4 directions yet people insist on camping there.

The thing about it, for me at least, is that the team doesn't have to hunker down one side and just sit there the whole match.  classes that need to be closer to the enemy can still move around and move forwards too engage the enemy, but rather then grouping around that middle area and holding it till it get's overrun, why not push forward from one side while having teammates throw out "suppressive" fire. If that makes sense, I dunno, I guess we all have different ways for how it could be done, but that middle room feels like a death trap.

I also think this game revolves around teamwork, which is something hard to find with randoms. Rio is just one of those maps that really requires teamwork to avoid revive parties.

ive had luck with the middle 3 games in a row...only. it was because of a demolisher with arc grenades dubbed for high damage and the reager 10. the reager was because of geth and superior damage and weight. plus he said he had chosen the weight capacity thing since the grenades werent technicaly powers. but in the long run i had to carry them from round 5 every time. and the only reason we beat the last one is because of a retarted pheonix vangaurd running on the catwalks while charging getting lagged out and someone joining (thus restoring my sheilds) right as i was fixing to die from a low health wave 10 target kill prime. so yeah i hate the middle.

I like to START there, but you have to move once the wave kicks in or you get swamped. I do like to keep one end of the raised walkway on either side but I'm not married to the concept.
Camping anywhere other than the farmers' plot on White or the uberl33t farmers' plot on Glacier is kinda dumb in any case. You got feet. Use 'em.

Jade has that issue as well.

Also the most  :pinched: moments are when people actually advocate that the L tube on Condor is a good place to camp.

You shouldn't have gone back to revive them when they yelled at you. Instead, you should of retaliated with:
"Well, you all seem to know what you're doing. I'm not going back in there. You revive yourselves if you stick there so often"
And when they all get executed by Geth Troopers and you go on to dominate the round? Well, maybe they'd learn something about not having horrendous tactics.

There are 2 spawn areas on either side of that map with the main spawn coming from the crates Players will run to spawning areas kill everything and then hunt the stragglers down . If you hang out in that room you are not going to see a lot of action

I much prefer staying around the container area, if for nothing else than triple grenade boxes.

The reason why people camp there is so they know where the enemies spawn. It's the perfect spot to find out where the enemies start spawning. But if you stay there mid round then you are an idiot. I start at the middle so I know where the 1st waves are coming from. Then I prepare to fallback once they close in. But it's a good way to take down some minor mobs until the heavy hitters start closing in.

Yep. They just wouldn't get off that death trap. Pretty annoying.

It's a completely advantageous spot to camp, though, if 1-2 players would stay a bit at the back (the side were the cannons are) to prevent enemies from spawning there. Otherwise, it's always best to stay by the generators.

if you werent standing in the middle, the enemies would spawn there, and you wouldnt have to fall back and wait for them.
not directed at "you" personally.
thats everyone that thinks standing there at all between waves is a good idea.
if they werent standing in the middle and ran back to where the others are they spawn there.

I prefer the crates unless I'm fighting cerberus. Bring a good cqc fighter and you're good to go.

TLDR:
-Played Rio with randoms
-Asked them if they wanted to take a side of the map instead of the middle room
-Rude people in game
-Had to solo rounds 5,6,and 7
-Was blamed for them being overtaken in that room, despite my best efforts to help them defend it.

[rant]
So I just had a lovely game on Rio (silver) playing with randoms U/U.  I wanted to take my claymore batarian out for a spin, and right off the bat (no pun intended) I notice everyone camping the middle room.  It's the Geth and I hate them plenty with most characters, but batarians just get stunlocked to oblivion.  I go on the mic and suggest that we choose one of the sides so that enemies can only come at us from one direction.  Not only was I "wrong" but apparently I am also "stupid". Fine, whatever, I'll camp the room with these people who clearly are super elite (they appeared to all be friends).  Waves 1-4 no problems, it's pretty easy.  After that...things started to get messy.  I stayed in the room with them as long as possible, but when enemies attack you from all sides (some of which are invisible) it becomes hard to hold that position.  These guys simply would NOT fall back out of that room, so what happens?  I end up soloing rounds 5,6, and 7.  Wave 6 was 1234 objective (not fun at all).  The following rounds where pretty much just a congo line people constantly going down, and again I suggested we maybe move to one side of the map (politely) to which I was met with "Maybe if you f***ing revived the team once in a while this wouldn't be so bad"  ......MMMMKay!  Match ends and guess who has the most revives?  Well it wasn't any of them.  I'm not saying this cause I'm so awesome and everyone else sucks, in fact I'm not great, and that was frustrating as hell.

[/rant]

So the question is, why do people hold that room?  Am I truly an idiot for thinking it best if enemies have to walk down an assembly line for which we can shoot them from safety?

You're not wrong, the middle is the worst part to be. Personaly, I like the side with all the crates, great cover back there.

It is not a good position to hold the line, not much cover there , but doesnt matter on silver or below .

I like being in that area, but only because if you hug the ends of the map objectives can become impossible to do as you have to fight down the lanes just to get to it.
But I've also only beat Rio 2\\5 times.

possible in gold too. did it several times on gold with randoms. but its safer to stay at cargo container against cerberus/geth. well, against reapers, my fav style is run 'n gun (which i find very effective btw).

Played a game there earlier, started with a friend (destroyer) and myself (shadow). During wave 2 we had 2 paladins join (one with a black widow, one with a saber + valiant). Ended up having everyone but me sitting near the middle for most of the game, had over 20 revives by the end of the game. Once phantoms showed up, 1 or 2 people were taken down/bled out almost every remaining round.

Very frustrating game, capped off by being disconnected during extraction.

People are stupid and you should eat them.

Then again, I usualy am able to pull of the middle camping, but you have to kill fast.
