The middle room on the Rio map is a death trap like the L shaped pipes on Condor.
Very bad idea to camp there.

or the A/C ducts in vancouver.  Baffles me to this day that people can't understand the simple concept of higher ground.

A well co-ordinated team with a lot of firepower can.

....so that would mean about 5% of all random matches.

Lol at the last bit.

I'm frustrated by this too...every rio group i get camps there too, usually we're fine as i don't run it on gold, but i've seen some pretty pathetic wipes, the whole map reminds me of the geth colossus fight on Haestrom, on one side you're covered from atlas fire but you're exposed to advancing guardians and phantoms, on the other side of the room you can pick off phantoms but your ass is exposed to atlas cannon fire and nemesis sniper rounds... That's Haestrom right there, either you're in the middle and the colosuss can't get at you, but hunters and pyros bumrush and rape you, or you're on the ramps where they're fair game but the goddamn colossus has a clear line of sight unless you do a suicide charge try to kill the  20 or so geth waiting there before you're dog meat.

Personally I'm partial to the LZ, if you have 2 players watching the 2 sides of the rails, you get a clear line of sight to enemies trying to sneak up the ladder, great place as you also camp near a spawn point, forcing it to reset so enemies can only come at you from one general direction.

Honestly, most of the map is a death trap, i like it tbh.

part of the reason this is more frustrating on this stage then others....
If you just give in, and finally go to the middle with them, THEN stuff spawns on both sides again and you end up getting shot from both sides even though you specifically planned against it... heh.

I am so glad I am not playing on the xbox platform. Random people(PC) I played with so far always camp at the crate area.

I NEVER hold that middle room regardless. That room is an effing deathtrap and I'd rather be camping one of the long side walkways because at least they can only come at you from only one direction in front of you or in back of you. I dread it when the hack circle is in that middle room.

Dunno about Platinium, but in my memories, my friends and I used to hold the central area well. I won't lie, we were bashed sometimes, but most of the time, it works well. However, as someone said previously, we do not play with PUGs and use mics extensively.

As others have said, *IF* you've got a high firepower team built for camping/cover shooting its not bad, but in truth its still better to stick to the LZ side and camp the two walkways.

Prior to the nerf playing as a Destroyer with the Typhoon was fun as hell to camp that spot, and its still pretty fun with 4 Demolishers, even on Gold. The key is having people dedicated to each ramp and having backup specified so you always have both directions covered, but can have one player support a particularly enemy heavy direction.

If you're going to camp, its more fun to camp the middle, but definitely less effective compared to camping the LZ half.

Joking aside, you were playing with stupid people. The middle room is perfect for traps though: Stasis, bubble, PM.

i think its the same stupidity that in the beginning made people go up the ramp instead of somewhere else on FBW.
Took alot of talking/writing for people to accept the lower room there but nowadays its kind of a standard. I think the middle place tactic comes from people playing the mab onm bronze or silver where it is more easily managable and then realizing it isnt on higher difficulties.

Personally i would just move down one side and let them fight up there and go to the side where i have the better line of side/cover whichever i need more.

It could work but most likely its strategically weaker than deciding for one side as you are easily in shooting range to be shot at by both sides and they spawn all around you so it looks bad in case you have to make a run.

If you decide for one of the sides the enemy may have a higher ground level advantage but you only have one long line of drawn out enemies as they dont have all the same speed you take advantage of this by not having to deal with all of them at the same time (especially bosses will need time while you thin out the small fries).

Still if you can pull it off its nie for you but i doubt (like probably most) that it is a very viable tactic to be used in general. If its fun for you though, go for it ^^.

Holding the middle is terrible basic strategy. People think "its the high ground!" or "it's got 2 boxes of ammo!" and stay there. High ground is usually great, but not when you are silhouetted for hostiles to shoot at and all cover either cuts off your LOF or leaves you exposed from the rear.

Really good players with a powerful loadout can hold it, but that is like killing swarmers with cobra missiles. Just because you can still win the match if you do, doesn't make it any less stupid. ;-)

I can hold the room also, not the point the way i see it. the point for me is , what area of the map is easiest to hold.
As the difficulty levels increase , the middle room becomes a lot less attractive.

On Bronze? Sure. Silver and Gold, only if you like getting surrounded by enemies (or stunlocked into oblivion).

I refuse to revive anyone in that area unless we all had to move there for an objective. I had one pubby get so angry that my buddy and I calmly held off everything from the containers side (and refused to revive him each and every wave as he died there) he would storm over to us after each wave shooting and meleeing, only to go back there and get killed again. I think he finally rage-quit on Wave 5. It was glorious!

If you have a good team, gold can fly by from the middle room. Two snipers (one facing either direction) and two tanks/close combat specialists to tackle anyone who slips. Easiest with Cerberus without banshees to flush you out.
