Same problem here. When origin updated it erased all my savegames/achievements and game settings. Origin uses cloud storage for savegames now by default. I assume something went wrong and everything was deleted except for multiplayer(classes/upgrades). otherwise it would seem that I have never played ME3.
Solution? I can't imagine any. Getting angry certainly doesn't work in my opinion.

Update: I have gotten my savegames back. In Origin select the info button on the ME3 logo so you can see all your already downloaded dlc. select tab cloudstorage and select recover files.
You can now select recover from local files. This solved it for me .Cloud storage jumped from 51kb to 3MB. This same screen was during the update process I recalled. I selected to sync to cloud storage earlier but there was not anything in cloud storage so it makes sense to me now.
Hope this solves it for you.

If you right-click the game in "My games" tab->Show game details->Cloud Storage tab-> you can find "restore last saved game" option next to the "enable cloud storage" option. Does it work?

Wouldn't this only work if I had it stored in the cloud before? Just checking if I've lost my saves as well since I got some weird message when I tried to start the game.

Edit: Ok, my saves are still there, could it be that you clicked that "delete local saves and replace with cloud stored blabla" message?

Fortunately I never got this message, and nothing was lost, plus servers seem to be down, so I'm not even connected to the friends list. I disabled everything cloud related and restarted the soft few times.
Just suggesting people who did lost their saves to check out this option, interface changed with the update and bunch of things are completely hidden.

edit: "Fiend list"... I love my spelling bugs...

I saw this s*** coming, after origin update I was asked if I want to remove all my game saves. Why would I want that? "Hell no!" was the correct answer to this random pop quiz. I am guessing you picked the wrong answer. There will be many unhappy people today.

Whoa, thanks for the heads-up. I've disabled cloud storage and routinely back up my savegames in a separate folder because I'm way too attached to my Shepard, but this is still messed up.

My savegames are back already using the local restore function in origin. But the next sterp would have been system restore function in windows. The savegames are in the documents folder right? In case nothing else works why not try this?

System restore doesnt bring back documents does it? I thought it was program & system files, but not personal documents

Several people have had threads on this. You should know that cloud storage, if it thinks local and cloud copies differ, offers to erase your local copies and put only the cloud copies on. If you didn't have cloud on before, it turns it on by default (this guarantees they differ). The default if you click through it is...to erase your local games. You MUST carefully tell it to NOT erase local games, or it will. Don't want cloud? Too bad, it is re-enabled each update. Want a sane default? Too bad, you will get erased if you do not watch closely during origin update.

Unfortunately, you have learnt the hard way that unless you back up your data, at some point you WILL LOSE IT. That is the nature of PC's. I've worked with them since before Windows came out (yes I am that old!!). I'm obsessive about backing stuff up. There are many decent programs out there and personally due to the low cost, I now prefer HDD's because I have had DVD's fail to restore.  And Cloud storage, well I wouldn't trust important stuff to external storage.

To prevent it again, go into your Documents folder and copy any/all of the folders there to another HD (It's worth copying the whole folder because if you use stuff like gaming mice/keyboard's etc you will find that most personalised settings are put in here, Logitech and Razer definitely do). But more importantly, your BioWare folder is in there. Once it's been copied, you need never worry again as long as you continue to back it up regularly.

You can if you want backup the Origin and EA folder's which are located inside C:\\ProgramData if you have Windows installed to C:\\ However, this folder is usually hidden by default and unless your account became screwed on the server, everything should be restored if you need to reinstall ME3/Origin. The SaveGames are the main thing to worry about.

The irony is that the cloud storage is designed to make your content available from anywhere, and even if you uninstall or lose your machine, then want to play later. I don't know of any other backup system which has a default of erasing your disk before backing up. This is essentially what it is to turn on cloud storage at a later date and not carefully tell it to not erase your local files first.
