Honestly, anything but a sequel. The only reason it feels like our choices in ME3 actually effect anything in the universe is because there isn't another game to write it off as nothing. Think about it, how big did the Rachni and Council choices feel in ME1? How big did Morinth, the Heretics, and the Collector Base feel in ME2? Now, think about how little they all amounted to. If we want any of our choices to matter even a little, we mustn't have a sequel.
I'd gladly play a spin off, prequel, RTS or even an MMO... but never a sequel.
Very true. To add to your point, I feel like they'd have to canonize one of the endings (high EMS Destroy probably) to make it work, which further invalidates the major choices that some of us made. Plus there's the issue of who or what the next bad guy is going to be. I'd hate for it to be "Reaper-Reapers" or something cliche like that.
Still, I would like to see a sequel made. There's enough interest in the ME universe for me to want to see what a post-war galaxy would look like. A game where you have to navigate the various political intrigues in a gritty, war torn, and factionalized galaxy would have great potential if they do it right.
