Sequel set 10-30 years after ME3 destroy ending. Galaxy rebuilding, lots of recolonising. Different factions making power grabs during the instability.

This I think would be a solid setting for any story.

We would also need canon for genopage, and probably rachni plot, but  I think the tradeoff is well worth it to avoid a prequel.

A prequel is only valid if there´s something before the current story that can lend depth and help the audience appreciate the story in a new way. Mass effect does´nt have anything like that.

The origins of characters and factions are uninteresting because the current setting is dominated by the shadow of the reapers, and unless the next game is set after the reapers' destruction, then nothing that happens then will seem meaningful.

I certainly hope they'll never make a sequel.

I'd like a story-based game set in the pre-ME3 universe with the smaller scope and a more personal story. I still have this dream of having Miranda as a protagonist in a game with mechanics similar to Alpha Protocol. I'd also like a prequel set in the Prothean cycle.

MP games? Won't touch those with a ten-foot pole.

Holy hanna!! Hell just froze over...................................something WE agree on.

I'd like to see two games: a multiplayer (not MMO) RPG set around the time of ME1 that focuses on exploration, and a multiplayer cooperative FPS set during the Reaper War (kind of like ME3's current multiplayer, but on a far larger scale and with far more diverse and varied missions).

I wouldn't object to a more personal, more immersive SP RPG that plays similarly to the existing games, but isn't about Shepard & co and is more about the galaxy of ME1 and ME2.

Definitly a sequel, following destroy ending as canon ending (the two others preventing any future conflict).

To me the plot could easily be foreseen... The cycles, allowed by the reapers, do not exist anymore. And because of consistency, you can make the hypothesis that the reapers DID have a role to play...

So basically, a sequel in which the galaxy will unfold toward the apocalypse reapers wanted to prevent. The advantages are that :
1/ This completely follows the lore and the logic presented in ME3
2/ This could easily start an epic story (fitting with the genre)
3/ The conclusion of this sequel would close the franchise appropriately (first ME1 to 3, refusal of the reapers solution, then with the conclusion of the sequels new solution)

I would likw sort of a sequel but not in the ME galaxy So lets take a ship with a mixed crew trying escape
The Mass Relay bursts (Red ,Green, Blue ) doesn't matter. but due to a power surge in the mass relay they are thrust in another Galaxy maybe Andromeda.
Now there is a whole new area to explore and we since the crew was mixed we still get the races we liked in ME on the ship.
Of course they meet other species and can get involved im whatever might be threatening that galaxy.

Now since EA would still be involved Then they would meet a race that is not very advanced and we have to tell them when to eat ,bathe  go to the bathroom, sleep and even how to interact with other people . the next series we can meet their pets or see what they do after hours or at work
Hey now thats an original Idea.
Ok Only kidding about the last paragraph but the Other galaxy might be interesting  concept and it would make the game fresh

Sequel. Just pick one of the endings as canon (most likely Destroy with soft-retcon of Geth's death) and make a sequel, opening up a new trilogy with save-transferring.

Not really interested in prequels.

Interesting. How would they soft-retcon the Geth issue?

"Quarians were so sad they built new Geth and these new Geth managed to retrive memories/something of those Geth that died so the old Geth are not forgotten!".

Basically, an excuse to still have Geth race in new game with "remembering/ackowledgement" of the old Geth. I mean, Quarians can totally do it again since they did it once already. The Crucible energy certinately didn't erase the knowledge how to build robots from Quarians' brains. Plus, incorporating some memories of old Geth they managed to retrive from bodies would mean that the consensus would start totally from scratch, it would incorporate experiences and conclusions of the old Geth.

Nice! A faction of Quarians could even oppose such a move, leading to the threat of a new Morning War.

How to soft retcon the Geth in Destroy? Easy. The wave only hit 25% of the Geth because Shepard was so awesome Shepard had 7650 EMS like I did. The other 75% took some damage but they were able to repair it.

There won't be a file transfer available on the 360 or PS3. It will have to be done via a Q&A session in a form like Genesis.

If they do a sequel, then I doubt there will be either save transfer or Q&A session. The endings are too incompatible with each other to create any 1 sequel that would take all the different variables into account. They will probably pick 1 ending to continue.

They may do a Q@A for the other big decisions. Such as,

1.) Whether you cured the genophage
2.) Saved the Council
3.) Saved the Rachni Queen (and finally do the Rachni storyline some justice)

I really don't want a sequel. It wouldn't work, because they would have to choose a canon ending, something which they tried hard not to do. It would ruin the whole ending choice of ME3.

Why do these "next mass effect games" keep popping up on these forums? Folks, let go. Like an abusive husband beating his wife, you need to let go.

I'm glad to see that 'sequel' is winning by a landslide.

Prequel settings get frequently mentioned, but they'd make a poor setting for a game. While a prequel game would be great for anyone who missed ME1 through ME3, it would be completely lacking in any suprises for the players who have been following the series since Mass Effect 1. Anyone who played the Shepard trilogy for exampl,  would know that right as the Turians are about to drop the hammer during the First Contact War, the Council steps in and saves humanity. Likewise they'd know that the Krogan Rebellions end with deplyoment of the Genophage, or that uplifted Krogan were the secret to defeating the Rachni.

The other problem with prequels is that they would be set in a much smaller section of the galaxy, with fewer factions. The First Contact War would take place entirely in Turian and Human space for example, whereas with the Rachni Wars first contact would not have been made yet with either the Turians or humanity.

Sequels are the way to go.

We have no idea of how the story is going to end and it leaves room for the writers to pull of suprises, and we aren't limited to a smaller section of the galaxy with fewer factions. It would also be cool to see some of the effects of the outcome of the Shepard trilogy.

Bioware has already said that there's going to be another ME game. I'm just curious to see what everyone thinks this next game should be, or if there should even be one.

I voted prequel. Shepard is done, and it'd be a lot of work to do a game after this plot line. Instead I'd love to see a prequel about the First Contact War, Mourning War, or Rachni Wars/Krogan Rebellions.

I also think an RTS taking place during the reaper invasion would be amazing. You'd be able to choose all the races. Humans, Turians, Geth, Reapers, Cerberus. All the races/factions. They could even do something like Star Wars: Empire at War and have both ground and space battles.
