I've bashed this game on many levels since I've started playing. In fact I think most of my posts have been complaining about one aspect of the game or another. But there really are some surprising little things.. pleasant surprises if you will:
1. ever tried minimizing the minimap? love that little animation
2. the heads of the PC and NPCs always seem to look at appropriate objects in the environment
2a. eye movement is just excellent. from a quick peek at the ground when a character is hesitant to the back and forth when talking
3. the draw distance is pretty good... in fact for all the complaining about graphics if you run the game with 16x anisotropic and at least 4x anti-aliasing, it looks very very good. better than crysis? well no, but in a way yes. Sure it's not technically as good but there's some charm in these blurry textures yet.
4. some of the 2D art, i.e. the icons for throwable bombs, are really terrific. makes you wish they spent as much time on icons for weapons and armor.
5. codex is hit or miss, but the 'hit' entries are pretty sweet.
6. i hated leli but now i like her a lot
DAO is not devoid of charm.. from a DAO hater
