I'm in rant mode, so, please, have mercy. I'm furious! I'll do my best to explain what's happened to let you understand the problem.

Ok, my story so far.

I've decided to buy KOTOR 1 and 2, because many friends told me they are great games. I've searched around the whole internet and finally discovered a shop that still sells the Italian original boxed game (I don't like digital download, I want the stupid box and the stupid manual and the stupid CDs on my shelf).

1) I've installed it smoothly (well, a CD was so dirty my player was unable to read it, but after discovering it, I've cleaned it and made a back up copy) and both games didn't start.

2) I've patched the games, same story. I've searched on line and I've found all the troubles for the games have not been updated since the last OSs have come to the market. I mean, a patch! Write that patch! People have paid for the game and maybe they also would like to being able to use them a couple of years after having bought them!

3) However, I've reinstalled everything following the steps written here http://www.lucasforu...ad.php?t=194296 Result? KOTOR1 runs (badly but it runs) and KOTOR2 didn't.

4) I've updated all my drivers, all my softwares, installed again and... KOTOR2 runs and KOTOR1 doesn't. <_<

5) I've reinstalled both games. Nothing changes. I've contacted secuROM (because in Lucas' support forum was
written to ask them for an updated swkotor.exe file) and they simply answered "oh, try with the standard tool".

6) I've searched around the internet and I've discovered that by disabling all the movies, I'm at least able to play KOTOR1 (please, remember that I've PAID for it, so I'd like to being able to use it fully!). I've also patched it for
the widescreens, but it seems that my swkotor.exe doesn't like something of the patched file, so I've reinstalled everything for the 3rd time and keep playing with "wide" characters, squeezed in a creepy way. However...

7) Yesterday I entered Tatooine for the second time, just for NPCs side quests and... I can't move. If I exit the city, the game do an autosave that freezes the computer. If I enter whatever place (ie: also the Ebon Hawk in order to change planet), the game kicks me out in the start-screen.

8) I've installed the securom tool which updated again my swkotor.exe file and... the game keeps crashing! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghh!

9) so I've loaded an old save-file, while I was still on Kashyyk, to go back to Tatooine and see if the game would not freeze. And I'm still experiencing the freeze.

Ok, now I don't even know what else to do. Is there anyone here able to tell me what should I do or who to ask to in order to being able to play a damn game I've paid FOR PLAYING and not for only put on my shelf???

I am so furious!
Thanks to everyone.

Have you done the mss32.dll change? That fixed all my problems with KotOR 2. Besides that I don't know how to advice you, it really seems as if you've exhausted all your options. There are some more things you could try though. Have you tried to run the game without the widescreen fix? And have you also tried to use some older drivers on your graphics card? I use an old one myself because it works well on all my games.

The mss32.dll fix is for KOTOR2. Unfortunately, all my problems now are with just KOTOR1. :-( that doesn't need an mss32.dll fix :-(
My game runs without the widescreen fix, at the point 6 of my previous list, I've reinstalled all again without the widescreen fix. But still I can't see the movies. I can disable the movies and being able to play, or I can not disable the movies but being able not even to see the loading screen. :-(

All the previous steps where done with "older" driver. But KOTOR2 didn't run. I've found on line a fix for my gpu driver, so I've updated the drivers and... KOTOR2 runs wonderfully but KOTOR1 is a mess! :_(
I don't know what to do!!! Help, please! :-(

If I recall correctly the mass32.dll fix works for KotOR 1 too. You could try it if you haven't done so already, just remember to back up the existing mass32.dll file incase something goes wrong.

It is odd they haven't released official patches considering it is by far the most popular Star Wars game.

@ Elitecom: it sounds like a good advice! I've done everything, I could done something more just to try. I'll let you know the outcome. Keep fingers crossed! :-D

@Caradoc: yes, same thing I think too. Moreover, yesterday evening I received the answer from SecuROM: they simply stated it's not a problem related to their DRM so, ask someone else. o.O
Well, guy, what can I say... I've never had so many problems with a single game in my entire life! I think I'm going to write to LucasArt or whoever is responsible for that game.
