I'd much, much rather have something plot relevant than Take Back Omega or an ME2 squadmate filler DLC.

I was so against Leviathan when there were rumors that the DLC was about a rogue Reaper. Now that its not about that but about Reaper origins I am looking forward to this DLC.

I was under the impression it was about both.

Apparently so, which makes me wonder why my own pyrimid is almost completly inverted from that one.

Honestly, anything to do with the Reapers im happy to lap up. They have been pretty neglected since ME1.

Didnt Star Brat tell us he made the first Reaper from his creators. So dont we already know the origins of the Reapers.

The first Reaper was Harbinger.

Leviathan is the Catalyst's failed attempt at synthesis.

And I was under the impression that the DLC was about both Leviathan and the Reaper origins, and that the two were greatly related.

Sure. It’s very much a subjective pyramid. Some people would rather their character be dead than OOC, and some value story over characters—just as some people would place love before safety, or self-actualization before social status, on Maslow’s real hierarchy.

But most people I talk with in-depth seem to keep the top of the pyramid where I have it in that picture; it's everything else they rearrange. If you feel differently, it doesn’t mean your view is wrong, merely that I personally haven’t run into it as much.

I try to stay away from topics that talk about plots of upcoming games and dlc, so it ruin it for me.

 I do.
There's this thing called Suspension of disbelief.  Defenition- "writer could infuse a "human interest and a semblance of truth" into a fantastic tale, the reader (or player in this case) would suspend judgment concerning the implausibility of the narrative"

Basically, your doing what the word says, your suspending your disbilief, your accepting the fantasy----"The temporary acceptance as believable of events or characters that would ordinarily be seen as incredible. This is usually to allow an audience to appreciate works of literature or drama that are exploring unusual ideas"

But when they make the logic absurd within the boundries of that respected world, the player will notice and the game will become silly and unenjoyable.

Well if the origin story makes reapers appear as stupid children from the series long omnipotence beings we have seen in me1 and me2,
you have to care a little

QFT. I never saw the reapers as lovecraftian horrors either, they are ultimately machines and machines are always made by someone and given purpose. Turns out I was right.

As such the DO have a beginning despite sovereign's "I'm kind of a big deal" speach.

Sovereign dodged the questions.

Hmm..... that hasn't been my impression. We must be either talking to different people, or about different subjects.

OTOH, the position that you can't handle a game where your PC dies is easily mocked. Back in the pre-EC days I mostly saw people denying that Shep dying was their real problem; perhaps they were not being honest?

I'm quite mixed. On the one hand, it can add moral depth and complexity when the enemy has motivations.

But on the other hand...
...It completely changed the theme of the whole ME series.
...It killed mystery and consistency with the past two games. What was supposed to be incomprehensible becomes quite simple to understand.
...I personally don't feel the story needs such lore or mystery revealed. I see the story as centered on fighting for what it means to have life, soul, creativity, imagination, art, culture -- the openness and risk of life. The Reapers are the ultimate threat to that -- force, genocide, death. Whatever the motivations of the Reapers, their process is the problem you're fighting, not their philosophical motivation (which I think is also a present theme with both the Quarian/Geth and Salarian/Krogan conflicts).

I guess you can tell which way I lean though. I think revealing the enemy can work well in stories, but I don't think ME was one for it. I feel it would have been much more natural to speculate on the Reapers by the end of the game then to speculate on all the significant characters.

I have no issue with them wanting to write the history of the reapers out, and from some of the topics I've seen around questioning the origins, it made for some pretty reasonable conversation.

But, I would have to agree that I never really cared. They just needed to die. The game for me was about picking up allies, making decisions and watching them play out, and then, of course, blowin' **** up. The reapers were a good enemy for this franchise because they gave me a goal, gave me reason to want them gone, but allowed the core of the games to remain in interacting with the world and not necessarily with them.

I haven't talked to many people who value lore and backstory over the PC, the characters, the story, and their roleplaying freedom. *shrug* It may indeed just be different social circles and such. I don't talk much to hard sci-fi fans, for instance.

Who here actually cares about the origin story of the Reapers?

It seems to be BioWare's top priority, while I personally wish they could just admit that they dun goofed and simply be done with it and move on to character DLCs or something.

Edit: Yes, I know I'm nagging a little, but the articles keeps showing up.

I do.

I'd like to know more about Reapers, and I hate to be annoying, but what's the point if Shepards' still dead, or just as good as?

The game is called Mass Effect X not Life and Death of Commander Shepard.

That's probably the point.
