I soloed the Sloth on Nightmare with my mage ( not AW/BM btw) I learned only afterwards that I should've gone in the nightmare nodes to rescue my team =P

^^That had to hurt. I checked out one of the outside dreams, and realized I could do them all, so I had my team.

That said...I will add this. I find Morrigan to be good if I need a 2nd mage and I'm not playing a mage...but..she's not as hardy as Wynne, for some reason she dies more often. I don't know why. Maybe because I take her with more often so she's a full level ahead of Morrigan. Morrigan can be made to be quite useful, but often if I take both Wynne and Morrigan, Wynne has to resurrect Morrigan at least once each fight! I don't know why. And yet I have Wynne equipped with mostly AoE spells and healing. And Morrigan usually gets the Winterwhatever staff.

For some reason, Morrigan just dies easier. She may have awesome destructive spells, but honestly, mostly she sits in camp with that rude mouth of hers. She doesn't do as much "party buffing" as the rest of folks do.

That's another thing. Party buffs. Use them. If everyone on the team is contributing one party buff, that's 4 buffs for each member. Leliana and her song. Alistair and Rally. Depending on what you are...a mage can give you telekinetic weapons or something. If each person carries 1/4 the load, the whole party is hardier.

Where I really did like having Morrigan the most? In that ruined mountaintop temple. For some reason, she's really good and helpful against all those reavers and other things.

Wynne's Tactics are set to healer by defualt, thats why she seems hardier. She heals herself... ? was this what you meant?

Tactics are quite important in DA:O, each character has a few and you can unlock more as you level up with cunning and the tactics skill. Dont use the defualt preset tactics however, although they will give a general idea on what each characters tactics "could" look like, it doens't mean its the best setup.

For Wynne, your first 4 line could look something like this:
Ally Health <75% | Regeneration
Ally Health <50% | Heal
Self Health <75% | Regeneration
Self Health <50% | Heal

these 4 lines mean that wynne will focus on keeping your party members alive. wynne is a healer from the moment you meet her. these spells will already be availible to her as soon as she joins your party. by having them at the top of her tacitcs list it means she will attempt them before any other action in combat.

If you have Alister in your group, he makes a fine tank. Make sure to take the warrior skill taunt and threaten as you level him up. His first 4 tactics lines should look somthing like this:
Enemy: Any | Attack
Self: Any | Activate Mode: Threaten
Self: Any | Activate Mode: Shield Defence (you can change this to shield wall late if you prefer)
Self: Surrounded by at least 3 enemy's | Taunt

Threaten and tuant make the monsers attack alister instead of your other squishier party members, combined with wynne's healing and health poltices it should improve your survivability considerably. Use alisters remaining tactics slots to have have him use ability's such as shield pommel, and example of this is
Enemy health >75% | Shield Pommel
For wynne's remaining tactics slots, leave them empty for now until you get a feel for how much mana she will use in a fight, if you find fights are over and she still has a lot of mana, add some damage abilities. If her mana is low or you find yourself spamming lyrimm potions. leave the slots empty untill she has leveled a little. If you do add more damage abilities, remember to disable them for boss fights.

Having these 2 starter tactics for alister and wynne should allow you to tackal the game hard difficulty with very little input or micro management required from you. The game can play its self, all you really need to do is sit back and watch the story unfold.

Unless you invest in more Willpower for Ali, it's useless to have him use anything automaticly beside Taunt (and stances). After Taunt + anything he have hardly any stamina left for any special attacks or another Taunt (or you can micro/make more complicated tactics and use his shield/templar abilities before activating stances).

As for healing tactics, NEVER have your mage healing him/herself, it's a waste of cooldown that might be crucial for tank. Instead, let them drink potions. My Morri (quite balanced in magic/willpower stats) could get nearly 100hp from Lesser Health pots by endgame (on Nightmare). And her Heal could do 40-50 at best.
