I loved Titantic even though it was hyped.
I found Avatar "meh" and it was hyped.
I disliked The Godfather and that is hyped.

The Godfather dislike is found as heresy by many, I know.

As is -
wait for it -
my "meh" feelings towards The Dark Knight.

Hubby and I took the kids to see it in 3D.  I enjoyed it.  Was the story predictable? Yes. However, lots of movies have predictable stories, and that makes them no less fun.  I loved the CGI.  The cinematography was visually stunning, and the music was just fascinating.  They did a decent job of creating an interesting, richly detailed world.   Sam Worthington did a great job of portraying a paraplegic.  It's extremely hard not to move a limb, and he managed to pull it off.  I imagine there was some editing that went on, particularly since they managed to make his legs look quite wasted, but still, it's a tough job.  Sigourney Weaver did a good acting job--when I first saw Dr. Augustine, my first thought wasn't "Oh, there's Sigourney playing Dr. Grace!"
It's worth the money to see in theaters because of the cinematography, and we'll likely go see it again sometime soon.

it's more exasperation than rage. i mean, at this point saying that Avatar had an unoriginal story is like saying Santa Claus wears a red and white suit.

Nah, it´s about pointing out the flaws of the most overhyped movie of 2009. Unoriginal storyline is nothing new? Ok, but really.. what DID this movie offer, beside the graphics? A lame political statement, presented with one dimensional characters and no humour whatsoever. Every and i mean every move was predictionable. Not even the action was satisfing, since there only was some at the end.

Thanks, but no thanks to Avatar and the 3D Hype for me.

I saw Avatar a few weeks ago and even though the story wasn't that good, the graphics were stunning, shocking, wonderful, just breathtaking. I enjoyed every second of this movie and in the end I even wanted to stay in the cinema to watch it over again. I'm quite a fantasy-addict, so I immediately was fond of the wonderful world of Pandora and the Na'vi. The fluorescent forest at night was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. This movie totally, but really totally rocked.

GO AVATAR!!! :P
