I'm just excited that they will be releasing modding tools for the RED engine.

Them CDPR folks really like patting themselves on the back, don't they.

When did they offer free DLC? And don't tell me about the "enhanced edition"--that was to fix what was regarded by the few I've heard about it from as a crappy ending.

the enhanced edition added hours worth of quests and a romance along with hairstyles. all of this was given to pc players at no charge and it was put into the xbox 360 version. if that was ea they would have charged people for every single piece of that.

They also added a couple of small DLC missions shortly after the release date back in May 2011, Troll Trouble, Sackful of Fluff, Barbers and Coiffeuses, something or other.

Ah.

Well, I have The Witcher, haven't played it yet, but I'm already not a fan of CD mostly for a subtle holier-than-thou vibe I get from them.

I can't say I've noticed a holier-than-thou vibe.  A "nicer than EA et al" one, perhaps, but from a customer's point of view, that's surely no bad thing...

I'm happy for CD Projekt. The fact that they're one of the few developers out there who don't treat their customers like s**t is one of their biggest selling points.

Question though, in comparison to Steam and Origin, how much does Gog own of the digital market?

It's very small. Most of the games they sell are older titles with limited market appeal. I believe CD Projekt has a very healthy localization and distribution business for many more recent games and movies in Eastern Europe, however.

Ha, if you think CDPR is bad then you need to see Bioware. Still I don't think this was worth a thread OP you should have made one about CDProjekt announcing their plan to release REDkit their SDK for Witcher 2.

Considering they haven't been lampooned by the community, are not the target of endless memes, hate, scandles and poor quality releases rushed out the door. I'd say they have the right to be a bit proud of themselves after releasing their first games which garnered a lot of praise and success.

All things considered, CDProjekt's mindset seems to be better than EAware's recent arrogant and conceited attitude. >_>

Ever since I played "The Witcher" I considered CDPR one of the best game studios that I know of, and it seems they don't intend to change. For now the only games I spend my money on are CDPR and Bethesda Softworks', I don't waste my money on any other companies.

"These were really large chunks of content, which were worth their price. If today’s DLCs offered the same amount of content, they would be worth paying for, but in most cases players think they are overcharged for what they receive. That’s why we offer expansions to our game for free. This is also a way of saying “thank you” to the people who decided to buy our game instead of copying it from an unauthorised source."

Thank you.

I don't mind paying for DLC. As long as it's developed afterwards as an extra, provides interesting content and wasn't locked on the disc beforehand, I don't have any problems with it. I would rather support a company with few releases but better business ethics, than a bunch of bloodsuckers and moneymilkers.

agreed. thats exactly the reason i wont be buying any me3 dlc but if say the darkness 2 or skyrim were to release more content i would likely buy it if it was lengthy enough.

Are you talking about Witcher 1? Both Witcher's have free DLC, but I believe naughty listed the W2 DLC content. For Witcher 1, there was a couple included in the EE as well as tons of exra goodies in the retail product (map, soundtrack, etc). If you own the Wiotcher, you an digitally upgrade to the EE for free.

In addition to having 4chan, the haven for pirates, defend it and refuse to give tips on how to pirate it.

CDPR has every reason to feel proud. Excellent games, excellent stories that don't treat gamers like idiots, excellent policies...etc

They may toot their own horn a lot, but that's their PR angle - walk the talk in a day when the industry is far removed from the customer and as willing to milk fans as please them. Truth is other european devs like Larian and Egosoft have the same values, but without the bravado. CDPR chose to be a community driven company right from the beginning and that's just smart business.

I'll love getting free dlc, but I don't buy the idea that dlc must be a post-sale service. If you want to charge for dlc, go ahead. If you want to make it free, go ahead. If it's your product, then you establish the terms of any sale. Sure, it's a great way to build customer loyalty, but if you make a decent product, I'm unlikely to give you crap about whether there's extra content thrown on top.

They want to change certain attitudes among game companies who have holier than thou attitudes towards their customers, such as the idea that gamers are idiots who can be bilked and not notice if the marketing is slick enough, or that punishing legitmate customers for the actions of hackers is an acceptable business practice.  CDPR are holier than thou.  The "thou" being those other game developers.
