All grown up: how CD Projekt RED treats gamers as people(new interview just released)

And people aren't angry at the moment this has been going on for years. With locked DLC on disk invasive DRM, preorder foul ups, shorn endings, ripped out content, rushed buggy products which are never adequately patched, artistic integrity and all the other rubbish.
It's not crazy that CDPR wants to distance themselves from that sh*t storm. It's not playing people at all, especially if they deliver on it and keep the product quality up. And DA2 etc, got bashed because the story was a jumbled mess and ME3 I simply thought was meh. it became the generic 3rd person shooter and the story which had held my attention in ME1 I was left thinking "What?"
Auto dialogue? You've quite a few choices to investigate and also leads to new information being revealed. Are you refering to the time sensitive dialogue choices?

Look, all the things you guys described are a result of good customer awareness. People don't like paid DLCs that alter the ending, a really popular games ending was being bashed and people didn't like their ending. So what do they do? They change their ending for free. That, in turn, builds a reputation for them because they're going against the big bad companies that people happen to be angry at for the moment. Just look at their marketing campaign. Instead of focusing soley on their games good qualities they instead compared them to Mass Effect 3's bad qualities. All they are doing right now is playing off of the hype that Mass Effect 3's ending caused and people are eating it right up.
Except the EE was announced before Mass Effect 3 came out. The endings drama played into their hands, but W2's ending was always going to get more content whether Mass Effect 3 came out or not.
Besides, when is good customer awareness a bad thing?
The Mad Hanar wrote...
They are only considered a top elechon developer right now because they are playing people. The game isn't that good. The mechanics are sputtery, there's twice the auto-dialogue, etc. If it were a Bioware game people would be bashing it. See what I'm getting at?
Not really. Different games have different expectations, in large part because of the marketing the developer puts out. It gives gamers and critics a focus and a context by which to judge the game.
i.e If Skyrim were a BioWare game, people would be bashing it (poor writing, shallow character interaction, etc).
See what I'm getting at?
Besides, for mine, CDPR are not a top echelon developer. They ain't no Black Isle or Troika. In the end though, does that really matter?
They're putting out solid Action games w/ RPG elements, complete with a branching narrative that's well written and well presented. They top that off with business practices that favour the consumer. A cheap pre-order price, free DLC and an Extended Edition, also free.
In today's climate of microtransactions, DRM and pre-order DLC that's exclusive to certain retailers, CDPR is certainly a good one.

Tell me with a straight face that you did not notice massive changes to BW and Blizzard game quality/customer support when they got gobbled up?
There is hope for gaming and it lies at the feet of small up and comers like CDPR.
I look forward to their next project.

I wasn't aware that the EE came out before ME3, that was a mistake on my part.
Comaparing Skyrim to ME3 isn't the same as comparing TW2 to ME3 because both TW2 and ME3 are story driven RPG's rather than sandbox/exploration RPG's. Plus the droves of people saying "See Bioware! That is how you should've made ME3!"
I'd like to believe that the "Your decisions do more than change colors!" thing was a direct stab at ME3's ending.

When did they offer free DLC? And don't tell me about the "enhanced edition"--that was to fix what was regarded by the few I've heard about it from as a crappy ending.
the enhanced edition added hours worth of quests and a romance along with hairstyles. all of this was given to pc players at no charge and it was put into the xbox 360 version. if that was ea they would have charged people for every single piece of that.
Eh, they've actually released 3 dlcs for multiplayer for free (EC was free too you know...). And before anyone says "yes, but they make money from the people actually buying the MP packs with real cash!", that doesn't change the fact that the dlc is free for anyone and that you can access all the content without paying a dime.
On topic... good for CDPR I guess. I do always wonder why all this praise isn't taken to their own forums though.

Heh, it was amusing seeing some of the initial reactions on the CDPR forums about that.

W/e. Enjoyed TW2, ME3, and Skyrim to name a few. Been some great games of late to make up for such disasters like SWToR and D3. More to come too; gw2 and borderlands 2 soon.

you can think it was a stab at me3's ending but you would be wrong. In the video interview they were comparing two different possibilities of the witcher 2's ending and showing that the scenery was in fact two different colors one being pretty and peaceful and the other being war torn with a red sky. The point they were making was that there is more to the different ending than a simple change in color.

The comany's CEO wears a smurf shirt, is a gamer himself, and is at many of their public presentations talking up video games as much as business. You seen John Riccetiello do any of that yet?
It's a company run by gamers, that's the difference.

They own GOG.com, which means they've got a pretty reliable stream of income, like Valve and Blizzard (WoW).
And, BW games still have very high quality. Depends on what you mean by quality. If you're using the owrd correctly, then they actually have much higher quality. If you're talking about a subjective opinion of the game's story/mechanics/etc, well, that isn't "quality."

i played iorveth's first and i have to say i am enjoying roche's side a bit more. The scenery isnt as pleasing but roche seems to be more involved in chapter 2 than iorveth was.

CDP will out do Bethesda when they let me play a female pc and let me romance any gender I want in non-TW games. Right now CDP is below Bethesda, but not by much for me. CDP just needs to learn how to do better portrayals of secondary female characters, and to not shove an annoying redhead in my face.
from what they have been saying the upcoming game cyberpunk will have alot more options for character customization hopefully that will include gender.
