Greg Zeschuk can no longer see his once great development studio being laughed at?

''Reports are suggesting that BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk has left BioWare Austin, the developer behind the struggling MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.
EA claim Zeschuk is taking some planned time off following the reorganisation of the company in May, but his LinkedIn profile suggests otherwise.
On the business networking site, Zechuk’s profile says he left the company in May, while GamersGlobal claims that neither Greg Zeschuk nor Ray Muzyka were present at a recent leadership meeting at the Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic studio.
An internal source claims that Zeschuk and Muzyka’s absence in such a meeting is unheard of.
It is being suggested that Major League Gaming CEO Matthew Bromberg has taken Zeschuk’s position and that BioWare Austin is to be renamed EA Austin.
Greg Zeschuk co-founded Bioware with Ray Muzyka and Augustine Yip back in 1995.
EA has refused to issue any official comment on the story.''

So it seems the once great studio of Bioware, which is now largely a laughing stock to its many core fans from years ago is losing one of the co-founders. Perhaps he could no longer stomach the rubbish EA force Bioware to make. Bioware used to be great, and I am not an old school fan, my first games were mass effect and dragon age origins, and even I can see they are a shadow of their former selves. EA have destroyed Bioware.

I wonder if Bioware's sale to EA was based entirely on needing funding for the SWotOR MMO? And then realized too late that it had too many EA tentacles in its future projects. Because at the time of the sale Bioware was just about ready to peak with its release of Origins and ME2 which is pretty darn good for a smaller company. But since EA's purchase, Bioware's game quality has dropped with DA2 and ME3 by being rushed and totally milking the dlc market.

Absolutely, and it is my suspicion that Greg Zeschuk can no longer watch as his creation is raped and pillaged by EA.

Hopefully things aren't as dire as they appear. While it would have been nice if DA2 and Awakening weren't quite so rushed and Exalted March canned, I'd like for Bioware to rebound and continue making good rpgs.

Oh well, if things are indeed as bad as the reports suggest, then I suppose that's what Bioware get for selling out to EA.

This HAD to be on the cards. Must have been so frustrating for him to see his company go from being such a highly rated developer to pushing out substandard games in such a short time.

Absolutely, Bioware is FINISHED now as a top draw developer, and it must hurt the founders hearts, to realise too late, the huge mistake they made.

There's been an update guys. He's just moving back up to Canada to work on more projects and be with his family. Chill!

Regardless of the debunk...

Has it ever occurred to some of you that he may want to retire just to do it, and that your complaints about quality or weird statements like "the founders must be hurt to see their baby die" or "seeing it raped and pillaged" whatever is just bunk?

This is a JOB. For a lot of you it's a pastime or hobby, but running a company is a JOB. How many of you have had the same job 10-20 years in a row? How many people actually move on from their job. Age and Life changes you. Maybe he'd quit regardless of what happens. Maybe they know that all companies have a limited life and they just are happy to have been paid a lot of money. I'm sure both the founders are more or less happy with everything Bioware has done, and I think they sleep soundly at night.

Well pzykosizsesz, you cannot deny the steep decline Bioware have been in since being pillaged by EA. Origins and Mass effect were exceptional games, ME2 was a good game, DA2 and ME3 were rushed disasters.

There will unlikely be a change of the name "BioWare".

This is from EA annual report: http://files.shareho...nual_Report.pdf
Page 106 - > 18 (segment information)

"we implemented a number of changes to our management reporting structure,
including expanding our three labels to four, with BioWare now considered a label separate from the EA Games
Label, and aggregating these four labels into an overall EA Label organization with a President of EA Labels
reporting directly to our CODM".

About Greg Zeschluk leaving BioWare, I would not be surpised had the man just "retired".

It might aswell be a way to make some noise before Gamescom.

BioWare's sale to EA was based on needing funding for Dragon Age: Origins. BioWare Austin didn't even exist until after the merge with EA.

This just isn't true.

BioWare Austin has been around for quite some time. They were created to work on "the MMO" long before EA entered the picture.

Austin is the only sister studio to BioWare Edmonton. The others have all been rebranded EA studios and were obviously not christened as "BioWare" (yeah, nice try) until after the acquisition.

BioWares sale to EA had alot to do with EA driving a dump truck full of money up to BioWare headquarters and making them an offer they couldn't refuse. People do not stay on forever and as the good doctors sold to EA there was going to be a time limit before changes happened.

Bioware didn't sell itself to EA. EA bought the parent company that was in charge of both Bioware and Pandemic.

That is correct, that whole scenario always seemed very dodgy to me.  Riccetello (sp) leaves EA to be part of the venture capital co.  Riccetello leaves and goes back to EA, EA buys up the VC with a huge load of cash.
