 There
are a few things that Dragon Age  3 hero
must have!

First let's look at Mass Effect!
(bare with me)

Shepard: Was Inspiring! (If you
chose to be the Ultimate hero)

Shepard: Did Epic things, Said Epic
and Inspiring Things!  Had Epic and
Inspiring Music!

Shepard: Was destroyed by a ****ty
Ending in Mass Effect3!!! /cry Histarically! ... Extended Cut not yet Released
so we shall see regarding this Artistic Integrity

Emotion Invoking:
Mass Effect did this and it was AWESOME!!
HOWEVER! Once you've toyed with a Customers Emotions like this in a game
of hope and Survival against all odds, DO NOT FORCE US TO DIE WITHOUT
CHOICE!!  ESPECIALLY IF WE HAVE SURVIVED
FOR 3 GAMES AS AN ULTIMATE INSPIRING HERO!!!
The ENTIRE Mass Effect Series is DEAD to most
of the Fan base who were emotionally traumatized by the Ridiculous and
Unavoidable death of Shepard.....

Dragon Age 2: Had Hawke!  A Great story about a character starting with
nothing and Rising to Champion!

Honestly...
Too many mundane things in Dragon Age 2, got boring.  Good story, I go back to DA2 after every so
many Months and beat it again... But... Boring.
Lack of Travel Really hit the game hard!
Good at story and some emotion .... Terrible for action.  PLUS
Dragon Age 2 For Play Station 3 at least, would crash FREQUENTLY!!!  Thank god for 4 Separate Auto Save
Files!!!  Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim had a
similar problem when your save game got TOO big.  But they fixed the problem with a Programming
patch and now it runs beautifully.
(Something about the game misusing the systems RAM)

Dragon Age 3: Must Have!

Hawke: DA2 was a great blueprint for
a great character!  I personally Believe
that Hawke should be used in DA3!!!
Given Perhaps a More Badass tone, BUT given the option to be the Ultimate
inspiring Hero (Just like Shepard!)

Hawke: Must do Epic things! Say Epic and
Inspiring things!  Have Epic and
Inspiring Music!

Hawke: Had 2 or 3 Epic Kill/Execution Scenes in
DA2!  But I don't Believe anyone other
than Hawke's Group Actually saw it! (To
quote Jacob Taylor
from ME2: "Its like pissing Yourself wearing Black
Pants!  Warm Feeling Sept nobody
notices")

Certain Characters from DA2 Should
make a return for use in DA3

Morrigan Should make a return in DA3 as a
usable squad member! and Friend/Love interest if you chose Correctly (Give her
a personality Improvement, Like the improvements with Jack between ME2 and
ME3.  We'll say, Raising a child and
Trying to be better than her mother has Given her a sense of .... Responsibility?)  ALSO a slight graphics improvement is called
for!  Morrigan's in game Look in DA1
looked NOTHING like the CG Render of her character!

IF not Hawke: New Hero Must: Do Epic
things!  Say Epic and Inspiring
Things!  Have Epic and Inspiring Music!

Hero Must Have/Do:  Hawke or Otherwise: A Ship!  Get Patrick Stewart to voice the Captain of
your ship! Patrick Stewart's Character will not be a push over however!  He is just as Capable as hawke/hero.  You could lose your ship get ship wrecked and
think that only you and your hero companions survived.  HOWEVER "Captain Picard"  is no push over!  He and Most of the Crew survived and are
already in the Process of Hijacking a Qunari Dreadnaught from a Harbor!  You and your team need to give them a hand
with the last of the Qunari!

Give a
Sense of Travel, Discovery and Exploration!
Lead up to an Epic Conflict!

Chose sides between Templars, Mages,
and Chantry.  Or Find a way to make peace
with at least 2 of them!

Free choices: Give the Player
Complete control of Events in game!
Again Mass Effect!  Chose to be
the Ultimate hero or the Ultimate A**Hole!

Use Carry over Data: From DA1 and
DA2

Combat Could use an overhaul!  The strategy-esk combat style is ok, LOVE the
improvements between DA1 and DA2!  Still
... Something seems missing!

Better or more Improved Voice Acting:
During the scene along the Wounded Coast When Hawke gives an inspirational
speech to the suppressed Guardsmen trying to take the Small Island THE VOICE
ACTING ON THIS LINE WAS TERRIBLE!!!!

NEED
to work on Epic and shouting in voice overs :P

Flemeth: could return as a Major
Antagonist of some kind! Perhaps after Morrigan's Child.

Let's just forget about that Shepard wanna-be Hawke until forever ends. God, that name is sooo generic everytime I hear it I cringe.

I'm all for a new hero saying and doing epic things. Combat was OK in 2; it's just that the poorly handled enemy encounters left its stain on the combat, and it became boring after a short while. Not the over-hauled combat's fault, but that's the way it turned out. In Legacy I appreciated the combat more.

F%@K HAWKE...Let's get someone new and No to Morrigan being a LI,we want new LI,so Origins and DA2 LI's are off limits.Everything else I agree with, except for the choosing a side between Templars,Mages, and the Chantry.Let's get a neutral option where your character is like"Why the hell am I even involved in this, solve your own damn problems!!!!!!!" lol

I was very interested in an interview with someone on the development team (Cannot remember whom. Looked for the article and couldn't find it.) I read on IGN.

He was talking about how they were looking at a lot of modern games for inspiration for DA3 - most of all - Skyrim. He even mentioned that he'd like to take a more open-world approach.

An open-world game set in the Dragon Age universe? Yes, please. /nerdgasm.

Better characters and environments both of these in DA2 were boring as hell (apart from Varric and maybe Merrill) as DA:O had amazing characters.

personally i want to know what happens when the last old god dies. And where the hell those darkspawn actually came from. And whats up with the dwarves of ancient and their freakish culture? For DA3 I just want answers!

I want to feel as if the main character's contributions are having a strong impact on the main story. In Origins, the Warden had to gather several armies to fight the Darkspawn. You felt as if your presence mattered in the story especially once the climatic battle occured in Denerim. In Act 2 of Dragon Age 2, this was also done very well, especially with the relationship between Hawke and the Arishok. But in Act 3, despite being Champion, Hawke seemed to be a mere bystander to the events that started the Templar - Mage war. As the protagonist, I want to feel that what I do, the choices I make, will make a great impact in the end.

I prefer a #*@%-storm of combatants. The Templars are an extension of the Chantry to some extent so I do not see them as separate sides in the war.

I do see that we have a war with two immensely powerful players (one a political superpower and the other actually having superpowers). Yet, they're not the only pieces moving on the chessboard, though. You have Orlais, Rivain, Tevinter and the Qunari.

Orlais has its own problems, but the problems are such that they can spill out into the Mage-Templar war if the Orlesian factions think they can get an advantage for themselves.

Rivain and Tevinter are opportunists. Tevinter will likely want to crush the Templars (and, by extension, the Chantry). Rivain will want to be on the winning side.

The Qunari are waiting like perched Gargoyles. I cannot say what they will do, but I feel they will react to the war and interpose themselves somehow. Without knowing "the Demands of the Qun", it's difficult to predict their actions (which is what I think Gaider wants).

EDIT: I also do not want all questions answered. A resolution to the war is fine, but exploring all that there is to Dragon Age isn't something I think they can accomplish in one game without it being sorely rushed and shallow.

As for the Hero? Not Hawke. Someone new.

As for what will the Hero do? Drawing comparisons to the Warden and Hawke aren't exactly the best examples of epic. Their actions were localized (with Hawke's far more localized than the Warden's). Epic would spread all across Thedas.

Still, I would prefer a locally epic situation in Dragon Age over some globally epic event. You can't follow something like that with anything interesting. For a game that is supposed to extend beyond a trilogy, they should not even attempt to tie up all loose ends in the next Dragon Age.

(I didn't like that ME2 was rather localized, ethnocentric heroism, but this isn't ME and isn't supposed to end with a 3rd game.)

They already said it would be a mix between both fighting styles. So technically speaking, it won't.

A lot of good points so far in this thread, but I have to disagree, (partially), with some.
I think part of the elegance of the Dragon Age franchise is that the intricacy of it's mythos does not overwhelm. Answers lead to more questions. Resolutions lead to more intricate issues to resolve. There is an immense Skyrim level world but you aren't forced to play through the whole thing in one game. I think lots of questions from Origins could be answered in a single game without killing the potential of the franchise because of that, thus far mostly alluded to, intricacy.
I have to second Cendrigal's nerdgasm, That's what I want to see in this third game. However, as much travel and exploration as are available in a game like Skyrim, I fear, comes at the cost of depth of interaction. I'm still playing that game because I, frankly got bored and replayed Dragon Age instead. If we can get that level of open-world thirty-thousand quest intricacy without inheriting Skyrim's disappointingly shallow character intaraction I'm all for it though. That was one of my major issues with DA2. They seemed to have figured no one really cared much to hang out at the party camp chatting up party members. I'd like to see a return to days when I spent half my night at work missing Alistair desperately. (Laugh if you gotta... :-P~~)
As far as the main character goes, I don't feel the Warden's story is over, but I can wait for them to return to her story. I do however want a character to whom I feel connected. I never really cared about Hawke. She could have fallen into a ditch for all I cared. Hawke wasn't me. My warden was me. When I finished DA2, I felt meh. even the first time. I was more curious about what crisis that seeker was dealing with. When I finished Origins, I proclaimed to everyone I knew that I was the queen of Ferelden and that they could address me as Your Majesty or Arlessa Elayne Cousland-Therrin. I want that level of intimacy in this next game.
Also, ReggarBlane, i think you're wrong on one point. The Tevinter Imperium would more likely, shall we say, repurpose the chantry, I think. They strike me as too politically astute to openly crap on the sole major religion of a conquered land. I see them systematically retiring Mothers to honored but irrelevant positions and replacing them with their own leaders, slowly but surely turning Templars into something resembling personal armies for Magisters. I can't wait to see what the Qunari will do. They've been threatening invasion since the beginning of the blight. Sort of.

Don't you dare change Adam Howden for Anders!!!

:wub::wub::wub:

DA3 must have at least a cameo with Anders for those of us who let him live. If you killed him you are allowed to go pee in his grave! :P

No to Hawke (or other companions) returning. I don't need any more bad pennies turning up after the way they implemented Oghren and Anders in the sequels to Origins. Much rather new PC, new companions all doing some epic things in Thedas rather than REacting to the situations presented, I'd like to see a PROactive hero who solves problems rather than cleaning up someone else's messes.

However, if allowed to ****** on Anders's and Loghain's ashes (Fereldan's don't bury their dead), my PC would definitely drop trou for that.Posted Image

And do what ? Blight is over, Architect and Mother killed..  All my Warden can do right now is plan the next ball at Fereldem's palace. That or go "Legion of the Dead" on the Deep Roads.

They could always make a game of endless Deep Roads skirmishes but somehow I think it is not what you meant :P

I prefer protagonists that excists at the mercy of the world to those that whimsically shape it. I know bringing up the Witcher is frowned upon but if it's one thing I thing I like about it it's that they made Geralt a victim forced by circumstance to fight various foes and made him incapable to achieve all that much other than his own survival. People sometimes say this about Hawke but it's just not true. Half the mandatory missions in Act 1 is Hawke running around helping poor people like some type of D&D neutral good adventurer with no decent reward in sight. Hawke takes on Templars, demons and every gang in Kirkwall to help who ever shows up in his or her path with a mark above their head. It's difficult to explain the behaviour without resorting to madness or extreme altruism (which doesn't particulary fit some other options available). In Act 2 Hawke again choose to fight and even succeeds at being the ultimate hero. I'd rather the protagonist be forced to fight and be moderatly successful. That doesn't necessarily mean the side you fight for is only moderately successful but the protagonists contribution should be moderate (by gaming standards). The protagonist is just one man and the story should reflect that. No "The Reapers view you [Shepard] as a threat", please.

While I agree with new protagonist idea, I would like to at least have Hawke have an appearance that is more than a cameo but nothing to overshadow the new guy. Neither are shown to be better than the other but as equals whether allies or enemies.

Assuming you have to pick sides in DA3, then Hawke is on the side of whoever s/he chose at the end of DA2. So depending on the new guys/gals choice, you will either be working together with them or killing them.

If you let Anders live and side with the mages, he should make an appearance. Maybe Teplars as well if it fits.

Same with Sebastian if he's promised to rain hell on you.

Wether it's a big role or a small one, I would like to see the Grey Wardens make an appearance if only to see if they're willing to forsake there neutral stance in this war. After all it's not a war between nations. It's World War. They may have no choice but pick a side. Especially with what the letter said at the end of Asunder*.

Update: The female protag MUST have a sexy Orlesian accent.

Update 2: The option to reuinite Alistair with Fiona. This will no doubt be a dark game. We need someone sappy.

*That sentance is deliberatly vague so as not to spoil it for those who haven't read it yet. Because you totally should as it's quite important. It assumes Wynne and Irving live though so it may not mesh with your canon.

They could battle the SUPER-BLIGHT, the one with the two Archdemons stapled together.

DA3 has only one must-have, as far as I'm concerned: ghast companion.
