For those of us who grew up with the FUNimation voice actors, that just wouldn't be the same. But I would gladly settle for English subs.Tazzmission wrote...

In some ways Kai is better than DBZ but it still has some of the same problems and made some new ones. Kai did cut down on a lot of the filler and the pacing was much better(better not perfect), problem was Kai was not new animation. so you still get some of the old DBZ filler in. Like Kaio's cricket was still in Kai because he was in too many scenes.greengoron89 wrote...
Umm, Kai is an improvement over the original series in every way... except for the soundtrack, that is - the music in the original FUNimation run was waaaaay better. Original Japanese soundtrack was better, too.
The worst problem with Kai was that Toei called it the "true Dragon Ball manga experience". I don't know about you, but skiping the first 16 books and not even showng the last 7 books, in no way makes Kai the "true Dragon Ball manga experience".
Maybe in 20 years they can try again to make Dragon Ball and get everything right for once.
Now for the music I somewhat agree, the DBZ Japanese ost is great, much better than the Kai ost. But The Kai ost however is better than the Funimation ost, because Funi's music never fit Dragon Ball in anyway.
And even if it did fit, it would still be hard to top Kai's Ginyu Tokusentai theme.
@LPPrince Really? the SSJ4 designs are horrible and make no sense. It's a good thing SSJ4 is not real, Dragon Ball ended at Goku and Oob flying away to train and nothing happens after that, nothing.

Wow, you're obviously a more hardcore DBZ fan than I am - I don't know anything about the mangas save for the first few issues involving Raditz. I go only by what is in the show, so what you call filler is simply DBZ to me.
Anyway, we're just gonna have to chalk all of this up to opinion - I thought the FUNimation soundtrack was (mostly) fantastic, as was a good chunk of the original Japanese soundtrack. The one advantage Kai has regarding sound is that the voice acting is miles ahead of the original English dub. Kai is simply better all around IMHO.

You mean I am a more hardcore Dragon Ball fan than you are, DBZ was made after one of the many timeskips Dragon Ball had and Toei made it a sequel show... for some reason.greengoron89 wrote...

But yeah DBZ had tons of filler and Kai should have had none of it.
My problems with Funi's music as I said was that it didn't fit, Dragon Ball is a silly gag battle adventure series that was somewhat based on Journey to the West, I don't think Funi's "rock" music works that well with that. Also they only made the music for two reasons, the first was that they could not get the rights to the Japanese ost and the second was to make it hip for the kids... Hip just like that DBGT Rap theme.
So yeah I take Shunsuke Kikusuke's music over Bruce Faulconer's music.
Oh and you are right that Kai had a better dub, in fact I even would call it the best Dragon Ball dub. I mean even Chiristopher Sabat has said they had no idea what they were doing when they first dubbed DBZ. One big problem I still have with Kai's dub is Sean Schemmel, he is horrible as Son Goku and Kaio.
And there is one more thing that DBZ has over Kai, Kai is edited but that does have more to do with the way Toei and Japan are nowadays.
