I hear you on the "not really sad" thing. It is more deep than anything; to have someone tell you that you give them purpose where they've begun (or have already) given up on themself.

This got to me. All the goodbyes did. As if they all knew Shepard wasn't going to make it. Even Shepard didn't believe she'd live.

Made me sad but also mad. I really was looking forward to surviving and the bars and dancing in celebration. The high fives and the yeah we dodged another bullet laughs.

Exactly.  I think it was the idea that you kind of thought the game was just really trying hard to make you think Shepard wouldn't survive.  That it was trying too hard and then wow, really.  What an emotion dump.
