DA2 is a spinoff, not a sequel IMO

This is like arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. Just a lot of speculation on the definition of a sequel. Did anyone think Awakening was a sequel? It had the Warden if you wanted to import him/her. It had Oghren and a cameo of Alistair, yet according to my boxed edition it was called an "Expansion Pack to Origins", and my boxed edition of Dragon Age 2 was called " an all new continuation of the Dragon Age Saga", which Websters describes as a long story of heroic deeds.

I guess we'll just have to wait to see what the next game is called.

What makes you say it isn't a sequel?...

I agree: DA2 was a Smirnoff, not a Tequila.

Because the devs say it is.

True enough.

But they might have had less backlash if they hadn't outright labeled it a sequel and rather identified it as a spinoff or just another game set in the same world.  The gameplay, look and feel, and sadly quality are all quite different, but by labeling it a direct sequel they invited direct comparison.

Dragon age 2 is a sequel, simply because it is called Dragon age 2.

The second Dragon Age was going to have the title: Dragon Age: Exodus. The evidence is within the game files.

Someone changed it to Dragon Age 2 very late in the development.

Almost doesn't matter the only thing that matters is, what is, DA2 was CALLED DRAGON AGE 2 therefore it is the sequel to Dragon Age origins.

I was almost called Zachariah but I was called Steve instead, you don't see people go around calling me Zachariah because my parents almost called me that.

When they were developing you... Oh wait. It doesn't work that way to compare a birth to the active development of a product. Carry on with your irrelevant correlations.

The game was in development with a title that was not a sequel until the end when someone changed it. The likely cause is marketing. Yet, changing a product's name doesn't change the product. Changing Dragon Age: Exodus to Dragon Age 2 doesn't make the game into a sequel, either. It was developed as DA:E, we ended up with DA:E despite someone changing it to DA2 shortly before finishing it.

Oh, the sweet power of denial... It's a sequel.
